Hey I need help getting a better sound out of my exhaust. I have a 2000 audi A4 and I just recently got a new expensive muffler put on but it didn't increase my sound like I had hoped. I think I need to replace the catalytic converter but can I replace it with maybe a universal one and if so how do I choose? Or does anyone know a shop that will install a downpipe to delete the giant tub catalytic converter underneath my car?

the exhaust systems on North to south mounted 1.8t goes like this
turbo->Cat->DP->2.25in pipe->Huge resinator->rear muffer
It's a very bad desing, as the cat is right after the turbo. So is your going to do an exhaust delete the cat! And if you must, get a highflow cat that's not right by the airbox. I've seen dynos of 20HP gains just from throwing out the cat.

not a bad design for emissions, turbos soke up heat . the closer the cat is to the turbo , the more heat it soke up for catylitic(sp?) light off. number one reason there aren't more turbod cars around.

I'm assuming by resinator you are talking about the big suitcase looking thing right before the rear axle. This is the setup i have been running for a little over a year now and i LOVE it. You loose about 50lbs and pickup around 10hp. It's also louder that stock, but won't drone as long as you put a glass pack in(i've got a 12in one) and not just pipe.
Either way if you don't want to spend the money for a full exhaust (go mine cut out for $60), but stil want more sound on a budget this is the way to go:thumbup:
EDIT: as for emissions - this is arkansas, no one cares. And it won't set off any codes or anything like that. Any shop should do it, but it will most likey be a crush bend and not a mandrel one.

fuck it, go to dyno & performance in ft. smith and have them do a turbo to tip 3"with dynomax bullet

How much will that cost me? I think I am just gonna go with B5's idea and get the suitcase cut out!

Yes you can legally cut off a resonator for emmisions. The only thing required outside of the engine bay to pass smog and avoid emission violations is a cat. Any exhaust shop should do it. But B5 is right, it's going to be all crush bent. Just make sure if it is crush bent that they do a good job at keeping any bends to a minimum.

Exactly. The bend is a 45 degree at most. So it shouldn't be all that big a deal:nice:

if you live in arkansas, you have no emission worries. deleting the resinator will help with some sound but not a lot. body shops don't do exhaust shop work.

I am in Conway...so Ft. smith is actually closer to me and I could make it a one day trip...will that guy cut out my resonator?

It may be closer, but if you made the trip up here i could save you some money, as i would sell you my glasspack off my car (new exhaust saturday) for like 5 bucks:thumbup:

Not true, if you get pulled over and the cop wants to see if you have a cat then he can ticket you if you do not have one. That goes for anywhere in the U.S. it's a federal law now.
And yes I do know that 90 percent of cops won't ask that in Arkansas to begin with.
