yah for sure
got my front brakes/bearings done today, i was thinking of upgrading to 5.0 brakes but didnt figure it was worth it at this point if the goal is sn95 brakes, so i just got some cross drilled rotors for now
my hood will hopefully be on and painted by next weekend...
the eibachs will have to wait till i get some C/C plates and rear control arms so i can do it all at once

also in the future get rid of those drums in the rearit makes a huge difference. i might have to see this car when you get it done. i drive the 93 cobra every now & then when the weather is nice.

yah the dumb thing is that it has a turbocoupe rearend in it, but the guy didnt want to do the work to convert to discs so he put the mustang drums back on it :(
but now i hear that you can use the stock master cylinder and it works just fine, maybe an adj proportioning valve??
if you ever come across any brake or suspension parts, even seats let me know

Hey, I'm not a big fan of turbo fords, (obviously, look what I drive) but after I saw neal's car, omg, that was really fast. That is a very impressive car. He has big props from me, because watching his car was definitely worth the trip to mokan.

bah. that's a horrible argument. That could be said for lots of cars.
if you put $30k into a 2.3 mustang, you'll have a fast car, but you'd never get near that back out of it.

It's all a matter of personal preferance.. I personally don't care how much $$ I end up dumping into my Merkur when It's complete just for the fact that it will be exactly what I want.. Yes, I know that the car is not worth much to someone thats not an enthusist to the car so I don't plan on getting rid of it.. But in my eyes I rather put 30K into a 2.3T Merkur than buy a stock Vette anyday.. With nothing agenst Vettes or V8's or Chevy or anything like that.. They're nice cars.. It's just a 2.3T thing..

yes cody is right, stock for stock, built for built, the 2.3 has more power and is capable of more power than the 5.0
here is what the factory (under)rated the engines:
1979: 2.3 liter I4 Turbo 143 bhp, 302 V8 134 bhp
1980: 2.3 liter I4 Turbo 143 bhp, 255 V8 119 bhp
1981: same
1982: no 2.3T available
1983: 2.3 liter I4 Turbo 145 bhp, 5.0 liter V8 HO 175 bhp
1984: 2.3 liter I4 Turbo 174 bhp, 5.0 liter V8 HO 165 bhp
1985: 2.3 liter I4 Turbo 205 bhp, 5.0 liter V8 HO 210 bhp
1986: same
1988: turbocoupe made 195hp stock on a smaller turbo than the rest(the swap i use, easiest ecu to use)
the first year the HO 5.0 came out it had more power, yet the following year the SVO came out and beat it, in 85.5-86 the svo had "5 less hp" yet still outran the 5.0 GT
now then, it doesnt matter how much you build a 5.0 it will not retain the amount of power a 2.3 will, the limit of a 5.0 is far below a 2.3
this is a recent discovery of mine, somebody very experienced in racing 5.0's told me about it ;)
and to prove the 2.3/2.0 can make more hp and last, look for joe morgan, john huber, neal gierach (local), they've all made more hp than a 5.0 can take,
neal is running a 2.0 (the 2.3's grandfather) and outpowered what a 5.0 can take last year on his old setup
john went 9.52 @ 142+mph in his 79 mustang with full interior, its a true street car, @3000lbs, (pick up this months Popular Hotrodding to read the 2 page article)
joe morgan had a "10-second screamer (pinto) that gets more than 20 mpg, runs all day in traffic, and passes California?s tough emissions schedule"
and now runs a 5 door focus wagon with the same 2.3 block i use (my injectors came off this car) and went 9.03 Still wearing a full interior, working stereo, stock floorpan

"Joe Morgan broke a crank at around 900hp on the dyno. That may have been rwhp, since I believe his Focus is around 750rwhp on the stock crank and the 900hp engine was one they were trying to push a little further."
and there are guys faster.......
there are people here that have seen the first two guys do their thing at mokan and the last....Hot Rod magazine can confirm
keep in mind these guys run factory blocks and i've seen 420+whp out of a STOCK bottom end (do you know the difference?) 420/85x100=495bhp......right about where a BUILT 5.0 splits in half
oh snap: i forgot don nase jr....he went 7's in a 2.3T ranger....sorry
lesson: just because it has more displacement, doesnt mean it has more potential

oh i've got nothing agianst v8's either. i had one and loved it.... and can't wait to get another one. im not a big vette fan but they are bad ass. but i just like cheap cars turned bad ass. sure you can get a few bucks selling a vette, but some one who puts at least over 5k in their 3k car usually isn't going to want to sell it. at least i wouldn't.

no, you dont make sense, or you obviously didnt read half the post, because i told you the horsepower limit of a 5.0 block, (500hp) and then listed sveral 2.0/2.3 cars that are making well over 500hp (up in to the 900s) and even some stock bottom end 2.3s that are making 420+ (last i heard)
a 5.0 block (according to mel) will often split right down the middle after 500hp, when you unbolt the intake manifold the block falls apart)
your argument was if the 5.0 or 2.3 had more potential, there is your answer
do get what i'm saying here? it does not matter how much you build a 5.0.......let me speak in words you understand.....it doesnt matter how much money you spend, the 5.0 will always have that limit of around 500hp, but the 2.3 block can take more
is this all greek to you? i dont really expect you to know anything technical, but since you made the uneducated statement i had to chime in

i like the car patrick, the hood def. looks good. there is no doubt that a lot of import motors/cars are never looked at in the manner they should. Sallie, i have yet to see a ls1 with 750+ HP on a stock anything. the toyota 2jz holds more power than your ls1. the RB (skyline series motors) hold more horsepower on a stock bottom end than your ls1. just because it has 8 cylinders doesn't make it stronger. the inline part (both the 2jz and RB series are inline 6s) means higher revs and less force on import parts (there are no crazy angles to dick with, unlike your LS1) you don't have to respect patricks car, but you should respect the fact the ls1 isn't the best motor ever, neither is the 5.0, SBC, BBC, or any other v8. (btw im not ragging on the ls1, i fucking love that motor, but when it comes to things holding power, RB/1&2JZ hold more horsepower stock the almost any v8 in america (certain LSx series motors have different advantages, higher horsepower stock (ls7 = 505 bhp, rb/1&2jz are 250 hp stock, and have the possiblity to hold 200% more horsepower than stock, the ls7 will never see a 200% increase on a stock bottom end)

also, what is wrong with a 4 cyc. car?? great gas mileage, less to replace, higher revs and power potenial of a v8, how does it make it any less of a car, just because it doesn't sound loud as hell?
