Suggestions

Taking a step back and looking at it from a broad perspective, what are your ideas for improvements to the boards?

Be honest, what would make you feel more at home here? I mean if I were just some random member, checking the site every once in a while, I would prolly complain about the brightness of the board compared to the rest of the automotive boards that I go to. Or maybe having the large box in the middle of the screen for chatters, cause it would just bother me.

Maybe even the little mood images thing under the profiles. Perhaps just the feel of riceness (if thats a word).

What are Your opinions of the board? Do we need to scrap it and do an upgrade which would most likely not even be a noticeable thing to the members, do we need to uninstall some mods we've done?

Do we need to integrate more random local events? More "NWA News"?

maybe make the background a darker shade of grey, leave everything else. Make a car audio section, Car of the month, team of the month etc(what One said).

I changed the background to 93C4F9, same as the body background on the site, but the forum graphics would need edited and I dont have the software on this PC for image editing (as others do since it was their birthday) :D

Note - the forum is fixing to get hella DARK with the new skin, so it will be totally opposite of what it is now.

One thing I like about another car forum I frequent is a setting I guess for the read/unread threads. Unread thread titles are bold, read thread titles are regular. It really helps when using the "New Posts" button to see what you've already checked out.

EDIT: I just realized our "New Posts" is completely different animal than the previously mentioned forum's "Posts - Last 24 Hours". Maybe we can get one of those on here? I like it better IMO, but i'm new here so... take with a grain of salt. ;)

I like the idea of choosing which skin we can have. Dark skins don't bother me, since D.O. and RDTiburon are both dark, but others may want it to be just like this. I don't know, just a thought. Talk to them.

We will still have this skin available for all to use, but we will most likely switch the default to the new dark one so everyone has a chance to see something new.

Trumpet... Different forum softwares do different things. Our old software had a totally different searching technique which I grew fond of, this software allows you to see "Todays" and all the rest which you've not looked at by clicking "New Posts" or http://nwaimports.com/forum/search.php?do=getnew

This removes all of the "Todays" posts that you've looked at already from its display list.
Other than that, I have no idea what you are refering to, perhaps a link would help?

The new skin only has the "new posts" in a drop down menu on the main navigation panel at the top where the "Memberlist" is currently... I know you guys are use to a clickable link without a drop down menu so I've added it right above the shoutbox on the right side of the screen. You can still use the drop down when you are in other screens and the shoutbox isnt visible.

I would post photos of the highlighted "NewPosts" but I am on my phone's Dialup and its a bit slow.

If you click on a forum (Lounge) you will see all the bold new threads with unread posts.

There are small red triangles showing the thread has a new post that you havent read instead of the current small blue down arrows.

Yeah I realized later that the actual forums do in fact do the bold/unbold thing. I guess I'm just still getting used to the way this "New Posts" removes what you've looked at from the list. Everything in the list is bold b/c I haven't read it yet :sarcasm:

So yeah, I'm dumb. It's just an even different system than what I thought. I'll get used to it.

EDIT: Ya snuck one in on me mid-post there, lol. Cool, I like the new color scheme. Very nice!

I dont like it removing stuff I have read from the list just incase I wanna go back and re-read the thread, then I have to go search for it.

InvisionPowerBoard is our old software which didnt do this. Check at the bottom of the main forum screen and it should tell you the software they are using.

Some of us use the "New Posts" link for everything (like u on your other forum) and I know I was hella confused with this new software but have slowly adapted :(

Probably later this week Wed or Thurs... We are waiting for triepsyn to finish her html coding on the new site, we want to open both at the same time so they match.

Dont really know if its a step in the right direction or not, I'm sure there are members who will not like the colors or pictures as there always have been :P

I guess the newer versions of VB do something different... each upgrade contains things that members requested pretty much. They implement enough "Hacks" into the forum then just release a new one containing all this stuff as an OEM option.
I suppose other people dont like the way this "todays" post search function works on our 3.6.0 so they changed it to something better.

We unfortunetly will not be upgrading to anything newer for a while unless we get lucky :P

Okay I checked it out, I will hook you up with that on the skin when I get a good internet connection.... it is a simple search request which I didnt know was a function of the forum but I tried it and it works. Wasnt a mod or hack after all :P We may actually have a setting for it, but there are pages and pages of options to look through and i'm lazy :D

EDIT (yes, again, lol): I just found the "Today's Posts (http://nwaimports.com/forum/search.php?searchid=59686)" you were referring to under the Quick Links menu. That's pretty much exactly like the "Posts- Last 24 Hours" that I'm used to. I like it b/c you can see the last thing people were commenting on, as well as the stuff you haven't read yet, not just the stuff you haven't read. I'll just start using that link, thanks for all the help!

Cool, very awesome. I do agree though, kinda tacky as just text. What about a two tiered menu bar (like on hybrid). You could fit in alot more functions in the menu that way. I dunno, just an idea for conversation's sake.

I'm really not all that put out by just using the one under quick links, now that I know it's there.

I got bored, and made a photoshop of a potential two-bar menu. I couldn't find the right font in the code, so I just picked something.

So apparently posting pics is a little different here too. I just found out the hard way that when you put a pic in "Attach Files" they show up full size on the post (yikes was it big!), and when you insert a pic using "Insert Image" you can't resize it. Soooo I did it the ol' fashion way... manually make a thumbnail. Gotta love photoshop!

I attempted to stick the links in the nav bar but dialup sucks.
I successfully got the word "Poop" where it needed to go but then the stupid programing menu scrolled to the top and said screw it.

I had the same idea just dont have time yet. I can do that on the new skin however, but we can finger something out. They should go good above the shoutbox here, there are too many buttons up top the way it is, I had to shorten one :unsure:

she says there is a little left to do and the switch over will require a couple hours just to verify all links and flash works. We dont use programs to edit the code its all done in notepad so on occation, things can screw up :P

She wants to do it on a weekend to ensure there is time but has just been too busy lately. Lets cross our fingers and hope she'll get it done this weekend, I'm anxious to see the response of all 10 members that are regulars :lol:

Ah hah! I found the new threads link. It's not as exposed as the old theme had them. They're labeled "Today's Posts" under the "Q-Links" tab. I'm back in the black mode... :D

hmm, I've had no pm's, emails or Txts about the new site being up so therefore the new skin must have accidently been released as triepsyn wished this to be an entire package.

I dont know if its totally ready to be released at the moment but since you've seen it, I cant obviously take it away, that being said... any issues you might have at the moment will surely be fixed by the time it is released.

I have not been online in the last couple weeks do to a couple high priority jobs which requires me to work 12 - 18 hours a day so once I get caught back up, I will be around to modify things as requested.
