Well, I went to some street racing in Little Rock as usual this past weekend, and after I played around on the straight away, some guy comes up and asks me if I wanted to run his GT Cruiser. I was like, well, my car isn't running at 100% right now, but I'll race ya for fun. So he agrees to do a 1st gear roll.
Specs:
2005 GT Cruiser 5 speed:
CAI
Mopar BOV
10 psi
My Car:
1987 300ZXT
K&N
2.5" Cat-less exhaust
10 psi

The race:
We both punched it around 15-20ish and all the way through 1st gear I pulled a couple feet on him. I babied it into second (I've broken my u-joints twice in the last 2 months because of a stupid bad differential mount) and we were even all the way until I hit 3rd and he ended up pulling about half a car or so. We were doing around 100 mph so we shut it down. It was fun and I did about how I thought I would. I didn't have my 02 sensor installed that night and I'm still not even intercooled at all so those two things alone are worth some significant power. Other than that, it was mostly a couple friends with Z06's and some modded LS1 F-Bodies that were wanting to play from a dig which I was not about to take apart of. I can't wait to get my dang intercooler in. ;)

awesome but i don't think a intercooler is going to take your from being with a pt to a z06

Are you sure? I mean, I thought intercoolers were good for like 150+RWHP???

You might want to get that fixed!!! You replaced 2 sets of U-joints but decided to ignore a dif mount? Get the wrenches out and get busy.
I also hope this is a j/k right?

Yes it was a J/K and I didn't realize that my driveshaft was binding when under hard shifts until I realized how bad my diff mount is. I also need new crossmember bushings.

Did you have to use spacers to mount the Z32 wheels? We test fit some on a Z31 and ended up hitting the front shock...

Yes, you'll need about 5-7 mm spacers up front.

I just used some large washers from a hardware store. Isn't the ridiculously narrow wheelbase of the Z31 retarded? You need all kinds of spacers and/or wheels with crazy offsets to give it the agressive stance that it needs. *sigh*

Yeah, we noticed that the wheels were still sucked in a little bit too. How much was left over on the bolts?

its not just z31s heh. 240s offset is weird too.

Uhhh probably not the best idea for wheel balance and safety. You can get custom wheel spacers on E-bay for not much coin, I'd look in to it if I were you.
Think for a moment what your're doing, I would'nt want you to get into an accident due to a safety issue.
First your running around with worn out suspension parts and breaking U-joints which is not a good thing, and now washers behind the wheels!!! Dude get it fixed right before you wind up hurting yourself or someone else.
I'm not bashing you but would like for you to THINK about your cars set up.

Could you explain to me the difference in safety between using a wheel spacer and a washer? It's doing the exact same thing. As long as they're all the same size, weight, and the wheel is torqued to spec on all of them the same, there shouldn't be any problem. And as far as my u-joints breaking, that is because I have a small amount of play in my rear driveline which I'm sure is my differential mount. Until I purchase one, I TAKE IT EASY on the shifting. I'm ordering a rear subframe bushing kit asap. Are you going to tell me I'm the only one driving around on old/worn bushing? Please...I think I know my car's limits with its current setup and I'm not in putting anyone else in danger anymore than anyone else on the road.

Not much man, I'm going to try and head up again real soon. I'll definitely give ya a call when I'm up again. How's the Spec V?

With washers your wheel is only in contact with the surface of the last washer on the stack (very little surface area even if multiplied by 4).
There's just way too much of a chance of things wiggling free when the surface tension isn't linear across the face of things.
Visually think of this. If you want to be 20 feet tall would you be more stable standing on 14 foot stilts or standing on a house?
which I'm sure is my differential mount
The key word here is MOUNT if your mount is broken then it is no longer attached to the car thus it will lift under acceleration. In an IRS equipped car the diff is still attached at other points however the dif mount bears the brunt of your right foot, yes it is a heavy wear item in Z cars.
Are you going to tell me I'm the only one driving around on old/worn bushing?
NO
And finally I SAID:
I'm not bashing you but would like for you to THINK about your cars set up.
It's about safety
If you want to swing by my house sometime and put your car up on my lift we'll take a look under it and see what needs replacing. Just shoot me a PM.

It seems as if your logic coincides with a couple others that I have spoken with about my wheel spacers. It is very temporary to say the least.
After closer examination, my differential mount shows minimal wear. The main two reason you hear the rear "clunk" in Z's and more specifically, Z31's, are the differential mount and the rear crossmember bushings. It is obvious my rear bushings need to be replaced so some solid mounts are definitely on the way.
As far as stopping by, I appreciate the offer, but I'm not in NWA. I go to school in Arkadelphia. I am up from time to time visiting.
Thanks

Good news on axing the washers. Look, I'm just concerned for the safety of a fellow NWAI member and Z car nut.
You could replace your dif mount with a solid one but before you do I'd consider a new OEM replacement or a poly mount. The problem with solid dif mount is the amount of vibration/road noise transmitted through the mount into the cabin, trust me been there done that. An alternative is going with a poly mount or stock rubber mount and using a limiting "strap" to isolate the movement of the dif.
While we're on the topic of bushing removal one of the most expeditious ways of removing the old rubber parts is burning them out with a torch. Rebuilding the suspension is a big job, take your time and do it right and you'll be rewarded with an awsome handling Z, go for it!!!
Where do you go to school? HSU or OBU? I grew up in Hot Springs which I'm sure your familiar with by now.
Again if you're in the NWA area and want to crawl under the car give me a shout my offer still stands.
