Ok so when i drive down the road wit the motor cold or hot it dont matter if i run the rpms up to round 2k for just a second and let off there a smell of burnt oil? I cant figure out what it is i was thinking possibly the valves because it does smoke ALOT. let me know if you have an opinion and i know most of you do :maliwho:

what type of motor do you have?
most of the time it will be cam seals or a valve cover gasket,,,,,

its an 87 small block 350 its a high mile motor

oh then never mind every chevy engine since had a LT1 in a z28 smells like exhaust or oil I think it is part of owning that big ass 350 chevy motor -- they make enough torque to move a house,,,,,,,

stick some 305 heads on it and call it quits.

most likely its in the head or you just have some old rings that are lettin some blowby through.

but like bdp said, its more likely that something has starting to wear to the point where oil gets in the combustion chamber. it could be your piston rings, valve seals, etc.

Was that a joke? If the rear diff gasket is leaking, you've got bigger problems than the smell of burnt oil...
High mileage small block chevy... most of your gaskets are probably toast. Get the head gaskets and rear main replaced and you should be fine.
