FYI, slicks are illegal for the street.

I was reading in a book that when you add slicks, it adds to the 'stress factor' (I think thats what its called) on the drivetrain. When you put slicks on you get more traction, I think we have that one figured out. On crappy tires, once you got so much power your tires would spin. With slicks they don't spin (or they spin a lot less) so it puts more stress on the gears/drivetrain. I hope that makes sense, I'm not very good at explaining....

you would be far more likely to ruin the tranny/clutch/spider gears than axles, IMO axles would be last to go, but yes it def ads to the stress factor, think of it as punching something, you could punch a pillow but it wouldnt be very damaging to the pillow, or you could punch a wall, could be effective IF your hand is strong enough... I dont remember all information about rear-ends and such, but I do know that certain stock axle shafts do not have sufficient splines to accomidate higher HP/TQ ratings... This is prolly why most racers upgrade to 9" due to the housing, carrier and splines.

By HP/TQ I mean: Since the tire doesnt spin and free up the power, it will just grab and force other things to take the stress like was stated before.

This is for stock-sized slicks tho, like 24-26" slicks, im not talking about tubbed stuff ^_^

dont know bout all car but i assume its the same but with slicks on rx7s if you have moderate to high HP will tear up the rear diff and break axles. I dont know how the 7s stock rear end compares to other cars. By the way this is when you launch you car hard aka drop it at higher rpms 5k or so
