I personally think you should get a kit first but that's just because I am a more visual guy. I want looks for my car before i want speed. I would want my car to look fast and sound fast THEN be fast. But that might just be me. O well. Anyone got any other opinions post 'em up! :shiftingfun:

Im not a big fan of the body kits, usually when i see a car with a body kit i think its gonna be really slow because all there money went into looks and not speed. If you want your car to look better i would lower it, maybe rims, painted calipers etc.
I would do intake first, because thats the cheapest.
How far do you plan on taking your car? Like whether your conserned with fuel economy or peoples reactions to your car....
Most anyone around NWA or prolly anywhere will want your car to perform to what it looks like, so if you dont mind people doggin you for some outrageous body kit and stock performance - then go for the looks...
It should be what makes you more happy with your car tho, its your personization whether it be exhaust, intake, body kit or even seats.
I would probably go for intake myself because the exhaust would just bring attention to me and the ram air, well there are many big blocks on here that could prolly agree that ram air doesnt provide hardly any extra PSI unless your upwards of 100+ MPH.
GoodLuck tho
And Welcome to :nwai:
Edit:
Crap I missed your post about "looks" RedBeauty - Sorry :o

Cold Air Kit on ebay, i'd suggest investing in a K&N filter (about $30 shipped) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2466375951&category=38634)

you could always just get alot of money (however you choose to) and buy an HKS performance turbo kit for your stang and then along with that your body kit. Plus i hear Extreme Dimensions (http://www.extremedimensions.com) is running pretty low prices on kits these days. That way you can have faster stang and a kit! but yes the cold air is probably the best decision for your first mod. well im outz lata
n good luck

Where to start......Get exhaust first I would say. Off-road midpipe(no cats) and a catback or mufflers will be fine....the midpipe gives a great gain. You can get an H or X pipe. H will give you more torque X will give you more horsepower. Then get a good cold air kit if you want. Dont get a metal one b/c they will get hot and wont gain any hp. www.densecharger.com has really good ones. Then maybe some underdrive pullies and a timing adj. from steeda only. all others are trash.. www.steeda.com
Do a little suspension too. Get some springs, shocks/struts, Caster/camber plates if needed. I might be selling my prokit so maybe you'd be interested.
Gears are one of the best mods to get for a mustang. If you have an auto get 4:10s or a 5 speed get 3:73's. Also if you have a 5 speed get a shifter Steeda Tri-ax or Pro 5.0 are both well known and very good shifters. If auto get a shift kit and torque converter.
For looks I really dont bother too much with them because all show no go cars are just retarded to me. Speed first then looks. A Saleen or Roush body kits are the only ones I'd get. All others are Fugly. Some wheels. If I were you I would get Cobra front bumper, Cobra R hood, saleen wing and some rims. Dont go over 18's on a stang. Some 17" bullitts would look great on an sn95 or maybe some saleens, roush's, cobra's. Whichever you like. And also get some tint. It always makes a car look great.
Hope this helps......If you want some sites to visit hit me a PM and I'll give you some.

If you're going for looks over performance, PLEASE get rims BEFORE body kit. I cannot tell you how tacky a body kit with stock rims looks on most cars.
Get some 99+ Cobra Wheels. They look best IMO.

get some heads of an 01 gt. Go find a wrecked gt and take them. They will be pretty cheap and good performance. 40hp never hurt anyone :D

good idea
i was debating between voting for intake or exhaust, i figured intake 1st cuz its cheapest and starts the "bug" ;)

The PurplePony (anthony) got glasspacks installed just to make it sound a little meaner, but not too loud, has a perfect rumble/growl, and then he got MACH 1 rims, i think he just bought some components for a system.....he's lookin at getting those shorty headers and a COMP intake manifold next, but he is 5.0, not 4.6

Not trying to be mean but....
Tell him to save his money on mods and pay for a driving school or someone to teach him how to drive. His car would be twice as fast if he'd learn how to drive it.
He also should make sure he's even at stock levels with it so new plugs/wires/distributer cap etc. should be his first direction for mods.
Mr. Merk
Mar-14th-04, 5:41 pm
um...he ran only .2 slower than you on the gtech, and he's got really heavy rims now, and no aftermarket parts (ie intake), glasspacks really dont amount to anything, he's actually a lot better at driving than he used to be, we still have some stuff to work on as far as shifting cuz he's never seen i8ayellowcrayon shift  (swear he's the fastest shift i've ever seen)

Alright...
Have you forgotten that I missed 2nd on that run? That means my car would have easily pulled a 14.8 or so with a decent launch and without missing gears.
Weren't you there the night I raced him back in September? I had 5-6 cars on him by the 1/4 mile...

What I did was just stupid. Has nothing to do with my driving abilities, just a stupid mistake.

Its a mustang, leave the body kit and headlights off. Just my opinion, it just looks too ricey.
what kind of ram air are you talkin about?

But you can't teach someone how to shift; all you can do is show them. He has been getting better though. One time I raced him in my Olds Alero (V6 auto) and beat him because he was shifting really bad. Couple weeks later he beat me by about 2 cars... Thats when he had the heavy Mach 1s on the back.

My old Isuzu P'up brought in the only hunnie I need. I don't care if your car was faster :P.
Anyways, back to the original topic, intake or exhaust first. Like Merk said, it gives you the bug, makes you want more :). I would definitely do performance before looks, and especially before a body kit on a Mustang.

Your Alero has 170 HP at the flywheel. I'm assuming it's auto since I doubt they made a 5 spd Alero and I'm willing to bet it puts down about 130-140 WHP. His Mustang is rated at 225 Flywheel HP and 285 lbs of TQ. He probably has about 190 RWHP and about 240 RWTQ. He should absolutely EMBARRASS the Alero. I'm sorry but the Alero wasn't meant to be a race car.

Good for you. I wasn't even referring to you in my post. My Z brought in the only hunnie I wanted too. Even helped her decide that she was going to get a Z too. Alright I'm going to stop on that note... :(

but a supra and a turbo talon were, and he beat both at the track..

If I had extra cash to blow I think it would be fun to purchase a clean newer Probe GT and tune it really well. It would be a pretty big sleeper. I've seen some 13 sec all motor PGT's as you can remove a few things to lighten up a bit.

Just have to ask, how the hell do you miss second? I can see missing third, but second. Just flamin' u a little man. No offense.........................but missing second.
As for the dood asking about mods for his mustang. Gotta go with Bowen, the first thing you need if it is a stick is a shifter. I am partial to the Steeda, but I have never used the Pro-5. Suspension would be my next choice, the more power adders you install the harder it is going to be to handle. Do the suspension first. Just my $.02. Peace

Im not a real big fan of the kits either...yeah..they look good but I would rather a car be completely stock on the outside and be haulin ass than for it to just "look fast" plus kits really dont even help till you get up to high speeds. in fact they weigh your car down a lot more than your stock shit does.
RedBeauty84ZX
Mar-16th-04, 5:58 pm
plus kits really dont even help till you get up to high speeds.
Actually kits dont help you at high or low speeds, they increase the drag coefficient.
Mr. Merk
Mar-16th-04, 10:22 pm
some kits are designed for aerodynamics and possibly even to keep the car on the ground (IE front spoiler), works the same way as a functional wing, and they increase drag cof, to some....keeping the car on the road is just as important as going fast, but i am in no way condoning crazy body kits, or condemning them,
look at salt flat racers, they all have kits that hang down low.....
RedBeauty84ZX
Mar-16th-04, 11:08 pm
Top Speed cars dont really have body kits, they have a whole new body to make there car as light and low as possible. You cant buy kits like these to my knowledge, all the kits ive seen would and will slow you down.

I tried to shift it too fast. I don't usually miss 2nd, I've only done it a couple times but when I'm racing well, I shift lightning fast, my car actually shifts forward when I shift.

This RX-7's body minimizes drag coefficient and alows for a high top speed, 242MPH to be exact.
http://www.motorsky.com/auto/rx7/rx7_veilside_1.jpg
Where as this RX-7's body increases weight and wind drag, lowering the top speed.

This is a stock RX-7's body and it has a low drag coefficient from the factory, .29 to be exact.
