last night when Guy didnt show up for the fight, matt wanted to go test the Z on the gtech, i wasnt going to ride with him but he wasnt sure how to use it so i got in, we took off and since we were accelerating i couldnt put my seatbelt on, something happened and we ended up hitting a tree at about 95mph, I thought matt was dead, he wasnt moving or responding, finally he started moaning, my feet were stuck under the dash (which was now in my lap) and the car started to catch on fire, someone helped pull me out and a few seconds after we got out the car went up in flames, my ankle is broken in a few places and matt had some inury to the head, i havent talked to him since the ambulence ride, please pray for him and fast recovery for both of us
drive safe, and dont street race...........we almost died yall

I drove up to the scene right after the firetruck got there. It was really bad for me mentally seeing the back of Matts Z in the ditch and seeing fire coming out of the front of it. I didnt know what had happened and if every1 was ok. Josh was really freaking out for about an hour. You are both extremly lucky that everything turned out ok. Neither one of you were wearing a seatbelt.
I saw Matt after the doctor had done some work on fixing up his forhead. He had glass stuck in his head that the doctors had to get out and he had a lot of stitches. He had a concusion and I think that was the only other thing that was hurt. He will be sore for the next however long.
Please pray for Patrick and Matt.

:o I hope Matt & You will be alright. That's a tragedy. Just be glad everyone is still alive... :(
Is Matt @ the hospital? If so, which one, which room, what is his last name. Any info would be great.
Did the entire car end up blowing or was the fire extinguished soon after?

matt is home already from what i've heard, i think all he needed was stictches, i might need surgery, my mom went and looked at the car today and said there is no way i should have survived, she said that there was no passenger seat area left

The wreck happened on Dean Soloman, the road behind Landers. The car is on mission somewhere. I think the place had Chucks in the name

Feb-22nd-04, 2:06 pm
a little humor,
one of my doctors has a vette and was asking me about the gtech, saying he wanted to buy it if we got it back
the other one has an RX-8, he asked me if matt and i woke up that morning and put our dumbass pants, i was about to ask him if he put on his smartass pants :D

Is it like on the side of the road or in a garage? Is that in Springdale?
We're thinking about going to see it.

i may have to get surgery on my ankle, they said it may have broken 3 times, not sure if they will have to or not, hopefully not
its in a tow yard on mission in fayetteville, caleb is on his way there right now, he just stopped by

I just got back from taking pictures. Dean Soloman Road is in Fayetteville. Its past landers and the drive in on the left if you take 540.
Not much too see at the site but the car is definatly a site to see. The car is on Mission about 3 miles or so past crossover.

We went earlier @ around 2... We got back around 4. You guys didn't give us much info on how to find it. So, we did some investigative work.
We got a bunch of debris from the site of the accident.. Including some paper with Matt's name on it.
We talked to the guy @ Curtis Towing...
We've got a bunch of pics that we took with BDP's camera. I'll post them in a few.
Like Maliwho said, thank god you all are alive. Once you see the pictures-- you'll realize only a miracle saved them.

You can always replace a car, but you can't replace someone's life.
When I got there the car was still smoking and Patrick and Matt were on the way to the hospital. So we went to the hospital, and check out the crash site later. That tree didn't move too much ;).
I'm looking at the first picture, and you guys really are lucky to be alive. Seat belts wouldn't have helped that much either...

Lazarus was saying that the Kumho (something 12 series) which Matt had on the Z, have some problems. Jeremy, with the SE-R, has the same tires and said that at times, the tires weave to the right, with no assistance from him.. He's had some problems. That could also have been a factor... But you said he veered off.. So, I don't know.

Thanks for the support guys. I really appreciate it. I'm going to be ok as I came out about as lucky as you one could from such an event. I had some pretty bad lacerations to my head but they sticthed and stapled me up and I'm ok for now. Patrick is going tomorrow to see if he needs surgery on his ankle or not.
My car, well, although I haven't seen it in person, I know is a total loss. The real sad thing is: I didn't have insurance on it as it stayed at home while I went to school in Arkadelphia. I have a Mazda Millenia as a daily driver and the Z was just barely driven every other weekend or so.
Thanks again everyone and please keep Patrick and I in your prayers.

WOW! Verge first told me of the accident when I got back to Fayetteville from Centerville. I was shocked! I am sooooooooooo glad to hear you are for the most part alright. I was ready to come see you but Verge said you were out of the hospital. I will be keeping both of you in my prayers, let me know if I can do anything. Anything at all.......I mean it.

Triepsyn, I've reduced the size of the photos to 1024 for better viewing and also relocated the files to my server since I'm up again.
If these take too long to download, let me know. We had an issue earlier on the site with bandwidth crap from the original photos being so large. We will soon have all the issues worked out with the file sizes tho

Thanks.
We didn't see any other paperwork other than the two things we picked up. We picked up an Arkansas state map and a Defensive Driving Course slip. So, if you need those two things, we'll be happy to send them your way.
But I think the title would still be in the glovebox. Your keys were still in the ignition of the Z when we went to see it. Your suit & sports bag were still in the back as well. I don't think anything has been taken out.
I'm glad you're doing well enough to talk to us all though. :)

Oh, ok. No the papers you have aren't that important to me. I just need the title since I'll most likely be selling it to a junkyard. :( I'm thinking of going up there sometime this week and scoping it out and seeing what's useful and what's not. I'll probably tear off the parts on it that are useful and sell them and what not. Thanks for your help guys.
I8ayellowcrayon
Feb-24th-04, 10:05 pm
You probably won't need the title if you're selling it to a junkyard, because they can't sell the VIN plates legally, and they are only selling parts from the body anyways. It would be a good thing to have for sure, but I don't think you'll need it. Most of the junkyards that have nearly complete cars don't have the titles for them.

I know. I am happy that we are here and able to live and talk about it and I don't think we have any lifetime injuries we will have to live with.
What I'm sad/upset about is my stupidity. I drove a car that wasn't insured (only this one weekend for a limited amount of miles, but that's not the point) and I put people's lives in danger that shouldn't have been. The only way I can explain the accident, other than I was speeding and lost control, is that it was a freak accident. I've been down that road over 10 times and several times side by side racing a car. It's plenty wide, I honestly have no idea how I ended up all the way on the right side then when I adjusted to center up it spun 90 degrees to the left into the trees where it's final resting spot was.
Reguardless, what I did wasn't smart but I'm lucky to be here today and so is Patrick. All I can do now is learn from my mistakes and strive to not make them again. I have a full year before I'm even going to be on the roads (unless I can get some sort of restricted license) so I'll have some time to think about things and get done what I need to get done. I really appreciate everyone's help and support from this site. Everyone has been very accepting and sympathetic which is what I needed. You should see how even my fellow 300ZX owners treated me once I posted nearly the EXACT same thread on TT.net. It was very ugly to say the least.
Thanks again everyone and I hope to be around every once in a while but if I'm not, it's because I have to get my mind off of cars for a while and get it on school and my upcoming jobs so I can get my life in order.
Reguards,
Matt

Matt,
The flames you got on Twin-Turbo were a little harsh. Yes, you shouldn't have been driving without a seatbelt, nor should you have been going so fast.. It's not like you intentionally asked this to happen. Take the advice you gained from ZCAAR & Twin-Turbo, and use it wisely.. But the deliberate flames-- block them out. You don't need this kind of treatment, you've been through enough already.
But don't take the comfort we're giving you as an excuse to street-race, because that is the exact opposite of what we're trying to do. Take it as a warning... Life is a blessing... A drivers' license is a privilege.. You're lucky you're getting your license back in a year.
Good luck.
Don't let this ruin your love for cars.. Just remember safety is key.

deep words...well put, glad ur okay matt....u got some pretty freakin cool people on this site that can give some wise words of advice, take care man
I just read TT.net and Zcaar. Some good advice from Hogz there, but everyone else should die. Terrible words from people, I just cant understand why others' have such a horrid life that they must brutally pick on someones character with hopes to drive them to death.
Listen, you should know this by now, but Life works its own bullshit on you. YOU CANNOT CONTROL SHIT. True you could have died or Patrick but do you really need to be called names? Do you need bullshit drove into your skull like a self-tapping screw? I bet you even knew "this was a wake up call" the first night you slept huh?
You could be a successful buisness entrepreneur who has made millions, but what would that matter if a plane fell outta the sky into your house? Would people still call you names about how stupid you were to live close to an airport? Dont let those people get to you Matt, just live your life how you want it, take advice and get what you need from it. You dont have to live up to anyones expectations, just be happy in life and maintain close friends. Respect and contacts are important things to people and will help throughout life more than planning your life step by step.
Whatever is meant to happen to you will happen. I use to do paper routes and have a few years under my belt and I dont remember anytime (cept snow and Ice) that I ever wore a seatbelt, cause of the constant leaving of the car. Am I lucky? No, it wasnt meant for anything to happen to me. This is how I think and how I've lived my life, sure I have no successfull job to gloat about or my standings as an important person in my community, but I couldnt care less. I know that at any time I can be killed by a freak accident or a undefined heath problem - so why sweat the small stuff.
Many people, actually lots will disagree with me and even treat me the same as they did you on TT.net, but its cool cause they dont know me or live my life and I can give out my opinions all day long, because I live in the USA idiots.
I wonder if we took a poll on how many people have ever drove anywhere with no insurance and no seat belt, how many people would say yes. I wonder how many actually had a wreck or got in trouble. There is a time to "Grow up" and a time to be responsible, but I have no wife or children and no hopes for any, only thing I wanna do in my future is goto college and live my life as happily as possible. My college has even been provided to me at no cost, do I deserve it? Someone thinks so, because they have respect and want to help a friend be happy. I give help to people who need it and have always been rewarded for my efforts.
You really gotta listen to the gut feeling tho, it will be your savior most of the time. I should have been dead many years ago by the stuff I use to do, but somehow, that gut feeling led me where I needed to go. I prevented a friend of mine from Dieing in my freak mysterical accident where nothing added up still to this day and will forever be a unsolved mystery on why it happened, but I made her wear a seatbelt that night cause I had new tires and it was raining, she had never wore one in her life because of her weight, but it saved her life from going through the windsheild. It was a gut feeling that I reacted on just as I've always done, so thats why I claim its so important to listen to it.
I dunno, I have no idea what this has turned out to be and I have no clue to what "advice" I might have stated, but just be happy and live your life with friends and happiness. Drugs, alcohol, sex, violence, stupid people and all the other crap should be avoided - be an ass if thats what it takes, but just be happy with all you do and you will die a happy and successful person.
Just my chit chat to Matt, this was not directed to people with some pathetic existance who has nothing better to do than to reply to this for weeks on end. If that is you, then quit your current job and find a better one you can be happy at!
Oh and Patrick, dont hate Matt for anything that happened, he might have prevented you from having your own freak accident that night! At least you both have "learned" from this experience and will pass it on to others who will listen, it wasnt driver error or stupidity, but life. Same thing could happen to you riding with your mom. I really hope you are recovering well, I can understand how everything could suck at a time like this, but you will pull through many worse things can happen in your future.
Peace
Sorry thats so long and unorganized, I appearantly have the same "post disease" that Jasonslyric has :P (no offence Jason). I coulda made that way shorter but couldnt stop typing. Read through it and take what you like out of it and leave the rest, this is a public forum made up of 99.9% opinions.
I'm really sorry all this happened to you two and especially the car.
I cant comment on
What I'm sad/upset about is my stupidity. I drove a car that wasn't insured (only this one weekend for a limited amount of miles, but that's not the point)....
cause I have never had an expensive car I could love that much, I tear them up to quick so I never buy one over $3,000! I never really ever have insurance but am thinking of taking it up and getting a nicer car since I just got a ticket a few months ago for no insurance
I would really like to see you sometime and return your articles recovered as well.
Goodluck and speedy recovery to both of you!!!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I really appreciate them. Sorry the the late replies but I'm trying to keep my mind off of cars for a while.
BDP,
Thanks for collecting my things at the site. I'd like to meet you too and hopefully we can get together sometime and talk. I appreciate your advice and I agree with you.
As far as my injuries, I'm well underway with my recovery and I'm already down at school. My lacerations have been healing well and within a couple months there should be little to no visible sign of the cuts on my head.
Patrick,
Goodluck with your surgery and I hope your ankle heals quickly. Take it easy and if nothing else atleast remember you don't have to go to school for a bit.

Matt...all I can say...if your still fearless...take up road racing or somethin before you get in another wreck...take up any kinda racing..its the best thing for young people like us...like me, I used to race enduro on my motorcycle..I hit trees left and right(and straight ahead). But enjoy the recovery while you can..I guess my point is..I hope your not afraid to get behind the wheel and dont let a wreck like this scare you that bad. I hate to see people that when they get thier first ticket they drive slower than the speed limit or somethin so they wont get in trouble..I dont wanna see that happen to you too. Ive been in a few wrecks one of which if I WAS wearin my seat belt I prolly woulda been dead on impact, dont ask me how that one worked but I ended up about 20 feet away from the car I guess it was just one of those things where everything happened perfectly and god just loved me a lot that day. Ill stop blabbin on now...moral..dont be afraid.

I go to school in Arkadelphia so I'm here until I get a ride back home. I'll be up for my spring break which is the week after everyone else's. I think it's the 22nd-28th. I won't be doing anything the whole week except working on my car all day. Taking it apart piece by piece most likely by myself. PM me if you're going to be free at all that week and maybe we can get together then. I'm game for anything just can't drive. :(
Im usually off Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday well dunno about Wed. But chances are I will be free unless I get my Wal-Mart Job
I dont know how much longer my probe motor is going to last tho :P It makes horrible sounds and burns a quart every two days now... More pizza delivery crap will prolly be horrid on it by then. I think I blew an oil ring or two, also my motor makes crazy turbo hissing sounds around 3-6k again, it kinda worries me but its cool sounding so I dont care
Guess its about time to scrap yet another beater
