I installed that Loaner amp and I have to admitt it sounds pretty good for a 600 Watt! I havent even turned the gain up very much at all. With the 1200 watt, it was like 75% up - this one is like 30%. I am however running both subs off that one lonely channel and I dunno, sorta affraid of a capisitor melt down

Do you guys know when your expecting the other one in? I wanna know how long I can play with this one.

PS.

From that AMP meltdown I had with the smoke and sparks..... yeah, toasted the battery pretty good, but it would still start. Yestarday I accidentally grounded power (Like always) when installing that amp and it finished off the battery. It keeps no charge what so ever now. I have to push start it

My bud is looking for a battery today for it. That really Blows <_<

I'll have to stop by so you can hear this amp and stuff. I havent got it mounted anywhere yet cause
1) I didnt wanna drill more holes in the box
2) I just figured the amp would suck and I'd have to remove it
3) ummm..... I'm lazy?

My net should be back up next week sometime.... The bill supposedly wasnt paid, but I got direct withdrawl from the debit card :surp: Bunch of idiots. So for now I'm on Dial up with the Cell phone and laptop, I can only be on after 9pm and the weekend cause well, minutes are free then.

Peace

few things, you do not adjust the gain according to the level of sound. You adjust it to match the output of your deck. and about a "capacitor meltdown" what resistence are you running on that amp and is it rated for it?

Hey B, don't worry about it man, run that amp as hard as you wish, its under warrantee still. ;) Its only rated at a 2 ohm stereo/4 ohm mono load. He has 2 single 4 ohm subs, so he's running a 2 ohm mono load, but who's complaining? Hahahaha Your other amp should be in soon man........ Did you find a battery?

WTF does that mean????? I adjust the amplifiers on the installs that I do to sound good and be comfortable at normal listening levels.......

it means that the voltage numbers on the gain control have a meaning. Its that they are to match the output voltage of the deck. Most likely if you go over you will be throwing more and more distortion into the mix and why don't you just run it in 4 ohm stereo and not worry?

Oh, OK, I get ya. I didn't quite interpret what you said correct. Haha

The amp he has is loooooow power. Its overrated. 4 ohm stereo probably puts out a max of 35-50 clean watts RMS. That would be ok provided his box was ported, and had no rear compression, but it isn't. Pooey. Haha

I think Drew is saying that the head should be adjusted to a reasonable volume first, most units crap out at a higher end anyhow. Then the amp Gain is applied to match the head output. If the Gain is too high, it will Top out the subs before the component sets are even utilized fairly. If its too low, there will be too much
internal noise from the components and not enough from the sub.
Once you know where you stand there, you can fine tune the amp for comfortable levels. This is what I've always done at least.
But if needed we can tune it on your audio devices. I am kinda curious what that box is pushing. Do you think those would sound better in a ported box? Or what about just adding some Darcon? I think those subs require 2.50 cu Ft

I was only trying to explain to Mali that this 600 watt amp has a better internal setup with the mosfets and pushes more true power than the other seemed to with the same subs. Sorta like, "I setup a sub with a Jenson 300 watt and it sounded good, so I bought a RF 300 watt and it blew the sub... why? they are the same Ohm and wattage" The only way I could think to explain it quickly was to say that the gain doesnt need to be adjusted anywhere close to the other amps levels.

Mali, I was just looking for some reinforcement incase that amp toasts on me too. Since I rattled a few internal components loose on the last one and I cant see the board on this one so I'm kinda worried now ^_^ I havent turned it up too much yet so the coils can get use to the different wattage, but it has knocked my mirror off and that was more difficult to do with the old amp maxed out!
This amp doesnt cause headaches as often from the same levels either. That Other amp was just too distorted. I think I like using one channel for 2 subs, 2 channel was prolly where the headaches were comming from. I am anxious to try the replacement after using this one. I'll stop by tomorrow and let you play with it. Dont diss the install, I've been too busy to do anything with it.

No I havent got a battery yet, I am gonna go around tomorrow and search for one. My Stang battery is too large and its a NeverStart from wal-mart so the amp will prolly kill its cells anyhow

Hehe, remind me to install an inline fuse on that power wire  Think I forgot about that when doing my 15 minute install
