great idear, that should help a lot. Also, we should restrict new members from posting anywhere untill they make a proper intro, that just came to my head, so yea ;)

They make an intro, with a poll. If they don't get 5 "Yes" votes, then they get deleted and have to try again....let the general public vote on them based on their intro.

We're not going to "allow" members to join based on if other members like them. Thats not what we're about.

Whether or not you like someone that is a member, is none of my concern. We all need to be able to co-exist peacefully regardless of our opposing opinions.

The shoutbox thing is a good idea though, I'll ask BDP about it.

:werd: Having member approval of new members is a bad idea. Like Triepy said we are not about that. This is a community, and everyone is not always going to be happy about what everyone has to say. Some peeps just need to learn to deal with it. :nwai:

yea, its not like they were bashing you for having an idea - whether expanded or not :P

I will have to look into coding the shoutbox but I'm really not sure when or if we are going to upgrade our software - in any case, it will either be difficult or more difficult depending on the software but if you guys want it, I will try to find some time to work on some code.

I'm outta state this weekend so thats outta the question and my paper route is over with at the beginning of next month so I can prolly find some time.

Anyway, good ideas!

I had a suggestion, but it more than likely wouldn't fly, either because the "community" is made up too much of the largest group affected, or coding would be too hard/not possible. :dunno: I'll just keep to myself, maybe I'll pm it to BDP and Triepsyn for their input alone. I'm sure everyone is making this thread out to be something its not, no one put anyone down or cursed at anyone so with that, its just opinions and input. Theres always criticism with input and ideas anyway - but no one should feel they cant speak up because of what others might think.

We welcome anything you guys have to say ALTHO most of any modifications done to the board need to be done in the best interest of most of the members not just what one person likes and the other 99% dislikes - but thats a given, I'm sure you all knew that.

Upon deeper insight into my idea, I noticed some flaws, that I was unable to come up with solutions for. Also it wouldn't really benefit anyone.

well, I checked out some code and it appears that I can prolly use the database for the arcade where the members arcade rights are defined, and just write a script into the shoutbox code to check the database first before allowing permission.

That way we can just use the arcade settings (that are quite nice) to allow members rights on both arcade and shoutbox in one screen instead of all over the admin CP.

It sounds simple but its been a while since I've done any coding on the forums, so it may take me some time to work out :P

Haha, I spent a few days off and on in the mornings trying some different code snippets and stuff I came up with trying to make it all complicated but after reviewing what I was doing (in a moment of clarity) I realized I could use < & > signs in my code.


Nonetheless, this is all it took to make the shoutbox post required.

That code of course has minor altercations so that other forums dont steal my code instead of making their own.

i think its ok to have 25 post before they can use the rest of the stuff. As long as they dont make a thread (or use another) and whore it up with


"im only getting 25 post to play the arcade, or shout" and all that stuff. Its been done before, and its a waste of bandwidth.

Or a nice alternative to the 25 post is that the new members should be required to make a proper intro before the arcade or shot box previladges are given. then a mod or admin can activate them.
