OK... I found a 1980 280ZX 2+2 N/A today thats in alright shape.. The price is more than right and the car is just shy of running (vaccum hoses, plug wires, & some TLC is needed) Also the car has a solid body that needs minor body work to be perfect and the interior is all there and would be nice with just a little stitch work.. Now I'm debating weather this car would be a better choice of a project than the '91 Isuzu Impulse that I already own.. I like the Impulse but on the other hand old Z's are the shizzo.. Plus the parts availabilty is WAY better for the Z and with my new job I'll be able to afford to dig into a serious project a lot better.. But should I go for it and sell the IMP?

I don't like the 2+2's but i love Z cars, if you can find a 70's 240, i love how those look, they are the Shiznit. I would rather build an old Z than the Imp, even though i really like the Impulse's, but i just don't like how the 2+2's look with that longer backend, it almost takes the sports look out of it for me, just my opinion though.

I say wait for a classic 2 seater Z..they are VERY abundant.

Well.. for some reason I like this car better than your avarage Z because it's a 2+2 and not as sporty looking.. I think it has that cool old skool Datsun look to it and reminds me of the old Datsun 210 Hatch's for some reason.. So the fact that it's a 2+2 is a plus for me and my liking

Then DO IT! And then put a Ford 2.3T in it.

i was wanting to get one, and drop a Vortec 5.7L, like in Chuck Scrambler, with 37" tires we still stomped at Z28 Camero, we just got done dropping one in a stock CJ-7, and that this is sick fast, that engine would make a Z fly.

I was thinking either 302 or some SBC to stuff in it.. they look like they're real fun with a V8 Swap!

No V8s, only fourced fours!
Being a member of the Z-car club I might be a little biased, so is david aka Bad Asp, but its your thing. I find Z's to be awesome well run car, only you do need to take care of them. I'm nursing mine back from a home of massive a abusive and neglect. Go with the Z it won't disappoint.

Well I'm gunna look the Z over really good in the morning.. If everything seems good I'm gunna see what I can do to get it.. If it's a pile I'm gunna walk away.. Anyone know the major problem areas on a Z of this year that I should look out for?

Sell the impulse, get the Z(if it's in good shape). Drop a SBC in that biatch. You'll have the cheapest, most abundant HP on the planet in the car.
go to www.zcaar.com (Z car association of arkansas). Post a q&a and you'll get some hits back in a decent amount of time about any problem you should be on the look out for. Its a good choice

not a 280z 2+2, i like the 240s of the 70s. find one of those and put an LS1 in it. that would be very very very cool.

The Z was in worse shape than I thought after I took a good look at it... seemed better at a glance but there was rust forming around the gas cap & quite a bit on the driver side fender.. I looked under the car and theres just a nice lining of rust on everything.. not a good builder car by far :headshake:

that sucks, my dad had a datsun 280. it was so damn fun to drive in, i would take a z car over an impulse, but the rust on this car is mo bueno
