Ok, figured this would be the proper place to put this. Is a 1993 Mazda MX-3 engine the same as a 1993 Ford Probe SE???? I was told it was and my friend bought it (for the probe) but now it doesn't fit. Is it the wrong one or can we mod it to make it fit?!!!!!!!

By no means am I an expert on Mazdas OR Fords (thank God), but what I DO know is that Ford didn't technically take over Mazda until 99 (I think) and I can't see why a 93 Mazda would compare to a 93 Ford...then again, the bodies and hood compartments seem comparible and, possibly, with the right motor mounts, it might work.
But again, I am IN NO WAY, an expert on those to manufacturers...just speaking out of logic.
And out of coooool...hehehehehe. B)

Actually, the 1st Generation & 2nd Generation Probes & MX-6's are identical mechanically. The only thing you need to worry about is switching from a 1993/1994 setup to per se a 1995-1997 setup, its just a little different around the exhaust area. But other than that they are very much interchangable. :)

Okay, back to the actual question.

No, an MX-3 motor is not interchangeable with a Probe SE motor. A 2nd gen base model MX-6 motor (2.0L) IS interchangeable with a Probe SE (2.0) or 2nd gen base model Probe (2.0). The MX-3 is not in any way correlated with the MX-6 except for the fact that they are both mazda and they start with "MX-"..

My suggestion to your friend is either try to get her money back and invest in a jspec ($700 with tranny).

The only interchangeable car motors with the Probe SE is... Mazda MX-6 (Base)
Ford Telestar
Mazda 626 (Base)

Alright. I got you some replies from the boys who'd know. (Thanks guys. )

Here's what they said..

Pounds

If I'm not mistaken, that's just a chromed up filter kit, not an intake kit. The black thing on the left side of the pic is a AF meter though not from our cars.

The filter shown wont work (tapered ovular instead of tapered round) but it might just be a generic picture too. He should verify that with the company before he buys it.

If it is a 3" round, he'll need either and MAF adapter or buy an complete intake kit or do the HD CAI (in which case he'll still need the MAF adapter).

I had a friend of mine look up the part number in the K&N catalog and supposedly it is a complete intake kit for the 2.5L engine. If thats the case and it's filter and tubing, then all he would need is an MAF adapter plate. I'd still verify it with the company though.

The K&N FIPK was my second mod EVER.. it was just a filter which attached to the VAF and had some mounting brackets.. it **IS NOT** (or was not as of January '02) a CAI.. it is actually a HAI.

Shortly after purchase I modified it into a HD CAI but I was very disappointed with paying ~$130 for a filter and a couple of bent up mounting brackets.

Pick up a used HS CAI for ~$100 or less (I got mine for $80) and you'll be all set. Or get a Prelude CAI off eBay and cut it up to make your own for even less and it's brand new! :bounce:

Wait, Brian, before you do that.

How much do you think they'd sell it to me for?

As you know I have a 1993 MX-6 LS, so it would serve a great purpose for my car.

I'd rather take a little pressure off of you guys trying to sell it, as well as give me a new toy for my new motor swap.

So, find out how much they'd sell it to me for and I'll consider it. :D

Thanks Brian.

heh, he has this "i wanna rip someone off" look in his eye. But probably somewhere around what the website is selling it for, since its still brand new he doesn't think he should drop the price any. I'll talk to him and let you know . .
