Which car is it man??????? The O2 sensor missing will cause you to run rich or lean..... I'd definately have one there.

Hey Lee, Welcome back!!
Sorry about the avatar photo, after you upload one, we have to 'review' it before it will display. This is to eliminate any improper content or just basic photo size properties.
You can find the User Rank stuff here (http://www.nwaimports.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=323).
Good luck with the O2 Sensor problem!

Like Mali said, your O2 sensor tells the computer if the engine is running too rich/lean. I think it would run, but not very well. An O2 sensor isn't that expensive, I would just get one and get the problem out of the way.
Don't know much about DSMs but a Honda will run without O2, but it may run in "limp home mode". Pretty self explanitory lol. If a Honda computer detects a major flaw, then it will cut timing advace, rev limits, crappy fuel map.... Mine never did that, although I wish it would have now :(.

I dont know about that much about other cars, but on mine without an O2 sensor the idle is the only thing that might get messed up. Anything above a certian RPM is controled by the fuel maps stored in the ECU.

Caleb, your car was built with more racing involved than emissions, so the computer probably doesn't even care what the O2 sensor has to say. All the same, that is weird for a turbo car...

I guess thats y the RX7 runs into fuel managment problems only after like 3 bolt-ons.

ok...the codes say my map sensor is out.....hence my conflict.....i need to buy a book on my car...cause i have no idea where that sensor is on my car
Didnt you say it was code 3-5-5?
Code 55 tells you that the Diagnostic cycle is ended on that model computer.
Was the first code a 3? Diagnostic SIL codes dont contain an 03.
Let me know!!!
I can post a how to on the Code retrieval if you need it.
Peace

..no where the hell is my map sensor?
Ah, yea that would indicate the computer has detected 'no change' in the sensor output. Have you checked the connector/Vacuum line?
I dont know where the MAP sensor is located but it should be behind/beside the intake somewhere. Would most likely have a Green connector with 3 or 4 wires. It will have a Vacuum line going to it as well.
EDIT:
Check opposite the throtle position, upper left corner of the engine

does you motor have compresion? My vac. line to the map sensor fell off on my car and it started but ran like shit. really rich
I would check and see if you have compresion.

im sure it has compresion because i had it started once.....but it ran like ass...then i killed it waited a while and now it wont start up at all...i'll definatly check that sensor...wut does it look like?

Jan-21st-04, 10:29 pm
could it be flooded?
Maliwho97
Jan-21st-04, 10:33 pm
If its flooded, press the throttle down 3/4 of the way, and turn it over till it starts..... The MAF sensor will be before the throttle body.

Oh yeah, if its a map sensor, then it will be on the intake manifold, or close by and hooked to the manifold/TB by a vacuum hose.
I dunno what exactly it would look like but here is a 'bottom' picture of what it should look like

take out the plugs and turn the motor over and see if anything sprays out. If its water your fucked and if its gas get it out of the engine and then put the plugs back in and start it. You might want to pull the fuel pump fuse also.
Maybe someone should come over sometime and help check for issues?
I could be free tomorrow for sure

i dunno im stumped...im free tomorrow after 4:00 p.m.....i'll be home around 4:30 or so
hey to help ya out i dunno if this will work with your car, but it will work on a lot of cars with an ecu if you unplug the ecu and let it sit it should reset the computer. I dunno if this will work on your car but it works on most toyotas and they run a lot better afterwards. I know it does this b/c if the ecu detects a knock it will retart timming and give less fuel to the engine.
