I was just wondering what people's thoughts are about the SVT Cobra. I have looked at them for awhile now since i jsut wrecked the car I have and now i want a new one. I have looked at Cobra's and Saleen's. Can anybody tell me really what the big differnece is between a Cobra and a Saleen. Like is there any difference in the engines or what. Im pretty new to the world of cars and just wonder what people thought and what would be good to get not going over around 30K-35K if you can even get a Saleen or Cobra in that price range. Thanks alot for any ones help, Zack.

35k? you could get an '04 cobra with that probably. but you would kill yourself, or someone else

You could easily buy a '04 cobra with very low miles (quite possibly a brand new one) if you are willing to spend $35k. Or you could buy an older one cheaper and make some modifications to it.

It all depends on what you want. If you really like mustangs, go for it. I don't know what you were driving, if the wreck was your fault, etc....but be aware that these types of cars are RWD and have quite a bit of power. If you have never driven one, they take a bit of getting used to, especially in wet(or pretty much any other slick)conditions.

It just depends on your preferences. With 35k to work with, you have alot of options.

Saleen Mustangs are supercharged. Given the choice between Saleen and Cobra, I would definately go Saleen. A custom car building company like Saleen probably pays more attention to detail and the little things than Ford's SVT division does. I have always liked the look of Saleen Mustangs much better than the Cobra's.

But if you have 30-35k to play with, I'd recommend an STi or EVO... cliche i know. But you really can't beat AWD.

if YOU wrecked the car, dont get a blown RWD V8 car

i'd be happy with a cobra or saleen, i'd buy whatever was cheapest and mod the hell out of it, prob whatever was cheapest on insurance too

Ummm...I don't know if he wants me telling this, but he wrecked the car.

I think you need to stick with the VW because with a Cobra or Saleen thats just all the more horepower to rap around a tree. And I don't know where you are getting 30-35K you said at first all you had was like 14K. Damn you must work the stock market good.

lol its ok john, ive been in a wreck, it was my fault, and i totaled out my car. to be honest, i don't think most kids need a RWD, i know when i had my TA, the first time i really got on it, i turned it sideways in the middle of road, which has been the scariest thing i have ever done. torque is awesome, don't get me wrong, but that will get ya in trouble when your in the sub 25 category of male drivers, more insurance, more trouble (ha ha we know youll race it, don't lie lol) but is def. one of the more fun cars to own in that age. if possible, fix the GTI, those things are really nice or buy a RSX. both are good cars for your age (and mine too, im 17 lol, good gas mileage, fun to drive, good looking, everything you want in a car at our age, not something to haul the kids around or show our 21 year old g/f when we are 65 lol, mid life crisis reference)

the cobras are supercharged also.(the newer ones) if you are gonna get a cobra get a 03 10th anniversary edition...heres alil info

Beginning with the original in 1993, every generation of the SVT Mustang Cobra has elevated its standard of performance. The 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra raises the bar yet again, this time increasing power output to a level never before achieved in a production Mustang. The addition of a Roots-type supercharger and water-to-air intercooler to the Cobra's 4.6-liter, DOHC 4-valve V-8 engine bumps output to 390 horsepower with 390 foot-pounds of torque. Additional enhancements for 2003 include exterior design alterations to the front and rear fascia, hood, rocker moldings and side scoops, as well as several changes to the interior appointments, including new multi-adjustable front seats trimmed in Nudo leather and Preferred suede.

The 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra's 4.6-liter, DOHC V-8 is equipped with an Eaton supercharger and new aluminum alloy cylinder heads that provide increased flow capabilities. The aluminum alloy 4-valve heads are new to the Cobra. They were chosen because they also provide greater flow capabilities, and help give increased low-end torque without sacrificing peak horsepower.

The Eaton Roots-type supercharger is the same model used on the SVT F-150 Lightning, with a cast aluminum case, machined aluminum internal rotors, and its own dedicated drive belt. The supercharger compresses intake air to a pressure of 7.5 to 8.0 pounds per square inch, and under the supercharger the compressed air passes through a water-to-air intercooler. This removes heat gained during compression to make a denser, more powerful compressed air charge.

To provide strength necessary for the substantially increased torque output, the new Cobra engine is built on a cast-iron block. This unit contains the carryover forged-steel crankshaft, which is fitted with new Manley forged H-beam connecting rods, forged pistons similar to those in the SVT F-150 Lightning, and an aluminum flywheel similar to the 2000 SVT Mustang Cobra R's.

The engine is mated to a TTC T-56 6-speed manual transmission. Behind that, an aluminum drive shaft with upgraded universal joints connects to the rear axle, which has a 3.55:1 gear ratio.

The Cobra's independent suspension system receives additional bracing necessary for increased loading due to the higher power output and larger tires. Changes include revised bushing, mount and spring rates. A new tubular cross-brace has been added, which attaches to the differential and is designed to stabilize the differential assembly under hard acceleration. Revised rear suspension geometry helps improve roll steer.

Exterior design changes distinguish the SVT Mustang Cobra from the regular production Mustang GT. The hood has been redesigned, and now has flow-through scoops that help vent hot air from the engine compartment. Both the hood and rear deck are made of lightweight composite materials.

Additional SVT Mustang Cobra standard features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel; leather boots for the shift and parking brake levers; tilt steering wheel; power windows, mirrors, door locks and trunk release; the SecuriLock passive anti-theft system; remote keyless entry; speed control; and a MACH 460 audio system with AM/FM stereo and an in-dash, six-disc CD player.

I wrecked my car leaving me at fult but there was no other car involed in the accident. I have a few ways of getting money very easily and let me tell you its not easy. Im the one who pays for my insurance, gas, and payments for the cars i want to get and of course i pay for what i do if i wreck it. I have wanted a an RSX for awhile but then i looked into RWD cars and started to look more into s14's and an AE86 but those are a little bit old for what i want, so i started to look at newer cars and got into the whole mustang thing but like john as said i probaly shouldnt get a car with that much power because i will end up wraping it around a tree. I wouldnt be surpised that i would do something like that but i think i have learned from something already and know what to do and what not to do. I now have thoughts of just either modding my car as much as i can or either selling it and buying a newer s14 or just keeping the GTI and buying a s14 and just work on it instead of the GTI. But oh well either way im happy with what i got so sorry i started this thread because as people have just told me it would be best to get keep my car.
