I figured i'd start a new thread for people to just chit-chat in, that way our members thread doesn't get too crowded. (i'll clear it out eventually, but i want everyone to have a chance to read that posts made).

Of coarse, it does have to be a stick shift. :P I hate automatics! NEVER buy an Automatic if you're going to turn your vehicle into a project car. (Most of you already know that by now. I learned the hard way..)[/SIZE]
Tibby, you are posting in the 8 cylinders or greater club, so there's really only one car out of that list for me to recommend for you. :P A camaro is the way to go for shizzle. ;) The camaro has the best bang for buck value in a straight line of those listed.
However, all the cars you listed are good performance cars and a good solid base to start with (the only possible exception being the Acura RSX type S A-SPEC, but that's only because i don't know what that one is and don't feel like researching it).
It all depends on what you want to do with you car. Honestly, i wouldn't recommend any of those cars for you. I think they are too much car for you till you get a bit more expeience driving or at least go to a school that will teach you to handle the cars.
And finally, automatics are good projects cars as well, mostly for drag racing.

Have you guys heard about the LS1 they're coming out with? 375 HP all alluminum and they're gunna put it in the new grand prix gtp's, i think. They should be fairly quick. They said it in Hot Rod Mag. but who knows.

I know this is the V8 club... and don't get me wrong...I love V8's, but Tibby should have the most unbiased response to that he can choose what he likes...all of the cars he mentioned are close in performance...but the best bang for your performance buck is the Evo 8 RS- 276hp, AWD, lightweight materials throughout, some of the best brakes on the market, and the quickest most responsive steering and handling on the market in the U.S.- All at less than $27,000 with a 10 year warranty I believe (don't quote me on the warranty). The rest of the cars are wonderful, including the wonderfully powerful SS...The Evo is just the best all around vehicle you can buy right now.

I thought my post was pretty unbiased for the most part. ;)
I said best bang for buck in a straight line. A SS is considerably less than $27,000(considering there aren't any new ones). You won't beat it in straight line performance for the money you spend. Big displacement, solid rear axle and straight lines are the shortest distance between 2 points. :2thumbsup:
But yeah, out of all the cars listed, an Evo would definately be my 2nd choice. They rock. :headbang:

i dont know anything about his driving experience. i started out w/a yellow mustang convertible, v6 car.. it was fast enough for me at first. but as i learned to drive it better i wanted something more, put exhaust on it and it gave it enough go that i could feel a difference.. but i still wanted something more.. so then we were gonna put a gt motor in it, then a cobra, and then i was like, well no i want a corvette. so i found mine at a super good price. im not killing myself to pay for it. and u can buy used ones for pretty cheap.. like say a 97-99 w/less than 45,000 miles will probably be about $27,000. a 2000 and up will be a little more. and of course when i started looking for a convertible the average price of them went up to like $40,000-45,000. but i found an awesome deal on mine and was able to buy it w/only 13,000 miles on it, fully loaded 6speed and convertible of course! its definately not a good car for somebody w/little experience though.. if u barely get on it you'll start getting squirley and get sideways, and it handles so good that when u start to feel the backend kick out its too late

it handles better than my old one, but i'd take it faster cuz i modded it and new its limits, this one....i dont know when it'll break loose and i'm afraid to get on it when i'm pushing it around a curve for fear of loosing it when i boost

my first ride was a 94 full size chevy single cab stepside with a 388 stroked LT-1 LOL i think i could handle a stock or mildly modded SS HAHA........ but as for a dailydriver i need something with room so i'm tryin to find a 96 Impala SS or a 96 caprice 9c1 there fairly quick handle pretty nicely and can be modded fairly simple

Import = Used for Sharp Corners = More traction = Use of Road racing. (Hallett)
Domestic = Used for Straight Drag racing = Requires Less Traction. = More power.

You have hit the generalizations.
However, both can use traction. A car requires quite a bit of traction if it is going to take off fast in a straight line and a car can use it when going around a curve.

I hate generalizations...there are too many variables in this world to generalize anything...esp this argument...there are cars on both sides that do the same things...it's not even worth the argument. just my $.02

I just hought I'd say I know that I will always love v-8's more than 4 cylinders, but there really are some quick 4 bangers and I know some of them around here could beat my car, so I give props to the ppl around here that can actually build a nice 4 cylinder and make it quick. :shiftingfun:

Exactly. My car may beat some 4bangers in a straight line, but it will get stomped by a lot of them; but on a road course I can just drive away from most of them because of my suspension setup.
I have some stuff to talk about a Chevelle. Buddy of mine has one and I have a few things to discuss. I would appreciate anyone that is knowledgeable on these to give me a pm.

I've got bad traction problems even though the L handles great stock. I've lowered the rear about 1.5" but will soon drop the front a bit and a tad more in the rear as well.

I used to autocross too and one of my rides was a 1982 Olds Ninety-Eight. It was a real granny car.... until we pulled the 307 out and dropped in a 455. Took second place to a 280Z that day. Got the video to prove it too! It was awesome....

Nah, it was pretty stock other than some Hooker Super Comp headers and 2.5" exhaust. Sad thing was it had a single-leg rearend and would smoke 1 tire - a nice set of whitewalls - practically to the cords at each turn. It was actually my Mom's car at the time and we entered it more as a joke... then we ended up running good so we kept racing it. Mom loved it...

I hate to admit something like this, but as i was spinning halfway down the crappy 1/8 track, on my way to a very sad 9.91 time, I thought to myself "AWD would be handy in this situation". Granted, the traction problem was due to the track being very slick and my crappy tires, still, the thought was there. :strange:
*btw, for those who were wondering, the track was george rays.

damn i was gonna say, at c'ville my beater 2.9 V6 ranger ran an 11 flat (1/8) with a terrible peg legged launch and i was over revving it 1k rpms  hung out with too many ricers
that was back when all i had was a muffler, maybe the bigger throttle body, restrictive redneck "cold air intake", and a radiator that was completely covered in crap so it would overheat by the time i got to the finish line

My best pass of the day was a 9.4(still spun almost halfway down the track...can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for the big boys). It was just a test and tune. I was home for the weekend and my brother wanted to head over to play around. It was fun just to pull up and head down the track.
