When I try to go in reverse, my tranny pops.
Every other gear is fine. Any thoughts?

Sounds like bad synchronizers.
Funny thing, Lazarus here on the board also had an MR2 and his synchro's went out. :P

It "pops"?
Do you mean like a one time pop, a repeated machine gun type thing, a grind, blah blah? A pop sound or a pop feeling? That's a really hard thing to diagnose without hearing and feeling it for myself. Is it hard to get into reverse? If so, is it easier if you ease up on the clutch slightly while you shift it into reverse? That would point to a synchro.

You can replace the synchros alone. Synchros are actually designed as a sort of "wear" part, like brake pads and tires, they're designed to wear out over time and be replaced. Granted it's not nearly as easy as replacing tires or brake pads, but you don't replace them near as often, the synchros could even last longer than the car.

Hey, Gearhead_girl..if you DO end up replacing the tranny, let me know what you can get one for.
Through a connection with my job, I might be able to get one for less.

Thanks sweetie. :)
I've decided to sell the car, I've had it for a while, and it's not done anything but cost me trouble and money. Someone offered me $7,000 for it as is. So, I'm probably going to sell it. :)
Thanks for all of your help.
And if anyone sees a Maxima for sale, hook me up with some info.
Thanks babes!
