If you qualify(have 8 cylinders or more in a single vehicle), and want to join, post here.

yeah, i'm still debating of what i should get for my next car. Here are my thoughts of getting: (Evo 8, WRX STi, S2000, Camaro SS, RX-7, Or Acura RSX type S A-SPEC)

No offense, Sallie but you might be a little to cocky with that Corvette. They aren't the God of all cars...There are alot of "4 bangers" out there that would blow the pants off a v8. I know a Corvette is faster than my car, but the way an STi and EVO pull hard on me from a start...I wouldn't be surprised if they can keep up with a Corvette.
Oh yeah don't mess with a yellow RX-7 if you see it...He might blow your pants off...Actually, I'm pretty sure he would.

Thanks all! Our car runs in the Outlaw 10.5 class at most events. It's basically a back-half only class that requires you keep the factory front frame rails and firewall - you can change anything behind the firewall. The other requirement is that you are limited to the size of the rear tire - in our case, the maximum tire size is 33x10.5W - believe it or not, this is considered a "small tire", the width is actually about 11.3 inches wide. The trick is to apply the maximum power to this "small tire" which is tough - hence at a racetrack like Centerville, we typically only apply 1300-1400 horsepower or risk looking like a John Force burnout the entire length of the track. It's cool looking but not great for ET's....

The only thing our C5 has had any problem with was one of the new 600hp Viper's but I'm hoping our new clutch (and a new set of tires) will help remedy that. Granted from a standing start the AWD's might have a traction advantage against the C5 but 1320 feet later the problem is usually taken care of.

All I am saying is your vette does not have 400whp unless it has a different cam in there (I know you don't have FI right now).
Vette666
Feb-1st-05, 1:27 pm
whats FI?
you have no idea what ive done to my car, and i like to leave it to peoples imagination. but yes i have over 400HP :P
i don't think you're the right person to be telling me what my car does and does NOT have considering you know nothing about it or my situation ;)
drewgray
Feb-1st-05, 1:30 pm
FI = forced induction so if you are looking to go to a procharger its a pretty solid assumption that you are not FI yet.
Other than that, I made no assumption as to what you have in your car, but if you are still on the stock cam, I will put money on it that you won't break 400whp n/a.

True but there are also some 4 cyl that would burn that ass. Turbos being the key component. The world has started to open up more to the 4 cyl scene, part of this being due to the horrendous F&F crowd. I used to have your same mindset, so I can see where you are coming from. Most everywhere you look there are people who want to "look" fast in their civic or whatever econobox they happen to be rollin' to AutoZone to get more vinyl decals. Beware of the other side of the spectrum though...there are people like me and many others on this board and others that would love to have that V8 kill on their list.
Why not list mods if you aren't worried. I'm stock as of now but parts are coming...I aim at around 450 hp. :maliwho:......and yes with a stock cam; sorry you do NOT push 400 to the wheels...if so, we wnat to see the dyno sheet.

lol dont remind me! :P i try to forget about it when i can.. it makes me sad. you know what did it is GM's little skip shift. they said that that thing kicks in at half throttle or lower, and say you're good to go to 2nd (the light never came on).. but then you let off the gas to shift and it gets down to the lower rpms that thing kicks in and tries to push it out of 2nd which knocks the synchos out. and they said if its really bad we'll have to put a whole new 2nd gear in it. but it all could have been avoided if we had unplugged that thing! the guys at Fletcher said to call the number in my manual to see if GM will stand behind it b/c its only got 20,000 miles on it now

Vette, look at a spec stage 3 clutch, it is holding up very well to 650 horsepower in a very nice car from LR. Also, I gathered you having a stock cam because if you don't know what FI is then do you know what a cam is? Just an assumption. Like they say assumptions make an ass of ya. But, I wouldn't change my statement either way.

True, it moves the curve up in the rpm band and you can prolly make your figures with those cams too. Its just for all out power get the 272/272 and what turbo do you plan on running? Either way, it shouldn't be too laggy and if you don't like the low end just rev higher :)

Not sure what turbo...maybe the Greddy kit or a GT35R. It may be awhile before all that though (just got a new place and getting married in 9 weeks). Mostly I am an interstate driver so either way would work with the cams I guess.

you drive a 6 speed convertible vette (not to mention convertibles are a hell of a lot heavier), sure its nice and yes it has a v8, but seriously, stop ragging on the 4 cycs, get over your 8 over 4 you got going on, and if it hauls ass, love it cuz its fast. ever heard of an SVO mustang (that is a v8) and there is a replacement for displacement, its called technology (ie turbos, fuel injection)

I agree with you pseudo if it's fast luv it and if its a 4 cylinder and fast luv it more cuz that kinda means it took more time or money to get it that way but I still don't agree with you on the saying there's no replacement for displacement because all of those things you do to a 4 cylinder (with money allowing) you could still do to a 8 cylinder and make more power. unless your talking about road racing where weight is involved.

i can't get over 8 cyls over 4... its a fact of life. and no, there is no replacement for displacement.
i love my car for a lot of reasons, its beautiful, its fast, and its a luxury car (all in my opinion.. u may disagree). i will never love a 4 cyl, even if it is fast.. you won't get the sound of the v8 that i love, you'll get an annoying one. and it'll never be as fast as a v8 granted u fix that up as much as u would the 4 cyl.

i'm not close minded, i just know what i like. and its not 4 cyl cars. i admit that 4 cyls CAN be fast, but they will never be faster than a v8 thats modded aswell. and they will never be mean or have the v8 rumble. instead they just make me laugh and want to cover my ears (this is also my opinion so u can't tell me im wrong)
redshark, how about a ride in the vette :P lol but i'll sell it to u for a price ;)

you drive a 6 speed convertible vette (not to mention convertibles are a hell of a lot heavier), sure its nice and yes it has a v8, but seriously, stop ragging on the 4 cycs, get over your 8 over 4 you got going on, and if it hauls ass, love it cuz its fast. ever heard of an SVO mustang (that is a v8) and there is a replacement for displacement, its called technology (ie turbos, fuel injection)
She's really not ragging on 4 cylinders, she's just preaching the v-8 gospel. ;)
As far as her convertible being alot heavier, it's not. The approx curb weight for the C5 coupe is 3246lbs and the C5 convertible is 3248lbs. Given, that's not the case for most convertible's, but with the C5 corvette it is. There was a hardtop model before the ZO6 and it weighed 3173lbs, but i don't remember if they did any weight saving stuff on it like the ZO6.
What about the SVO mustang? Are you talking about the 2.3 turbo versoin made back in the 80s? I kinda lost you there.
and finally....THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT. Period. No ifs, ands or buts. There is only so much air and fuel you can cram into a given area. That's it. That's not saying 4-cylinders(or 5,6,7) don't run good or make power. Just the facts.
As far as the loud 4-cylinder ricers, i can't say much. On my '80 firebird, i have glass-packs with turndowns just before the axle. It's pretty loud and i'm sure some people finding it annoying. However, I do think it sounds better than a 4-cylinder bumble bee. :headbang:
Evol 8 has an awesome car. It would beat my car in every performance category. Then again, my car's 10 years old and cheaper. :P But no doubt the evo is one of the best(if not THE best) all-around performance bargins out there.

Wow, I can't believe my big piece of metal is lighter than a Corvette!
And, yea, an Evo can do everything very well, at a bargin price.

The coupe has the removable center section. It weighs only 2lbs less than the converible...the coupe is the car you see most often.
The difference is 75lbs between a convertible and hardtop model, however, as i said, i don't know if they did anything to ligthen the hardtop up like they do the ZO6.

I think many of you would be surprised that your car is not as light as you think - unless you've actually scaled it, don't go by what your title says, what your door plate says, or what the magazine's say. Scale your own car - you're gonna be very surprised how heavy a street car is. If you want a free scale that'll give you a rough idea, go to Hiland Dairy on 15th street in fayetteville - the drive-on scale is on the east side of the building and the display is on the building to the west. It works 24/7 - just drive on, stop, look at the display and drive off. Don't know for sure if they like people doing that - they use it for their delivery trucks - so I am by now means authorizing you to use their scale.... I just know it's there. Know what I mean?

This is very true. My stang weighed almost 3200 pounds and it's a fox body. I had put on aluminum heads, and coilovers to lose weight, but added weight with sub-frame connectors and beefier suspension. But it does havepower everything and AC...

welcome man, I was thinkin bout a lightning or a HD F-150 before I bought my truck, but I knew that I was going to put some heavy miles on it and wouldnt want to do that to either of those sweet trucks.
I see your name is quater racer, what does the L do in the 1/4?
I've only taken it to the Midnights in Tulsa so I don't have an official timeslip. My best so far is a 13.22 @ 104. Here is a pic from last year at the Midnights. (btw I did buy a photo from the guy who took this pic)

Jun-27th-06, 10:53 am
I know where a few bodies are... depending on the work load you want to put into them... they start at about $300 which won't buy much other than a roller that was stripped in preparation for race-car-buildup. How close to "done" do you want one?
Don Juan
Jun-27th-06, 11:04 am
I would like something as close to stock, with the engine, trany, etc. I want a good 5.0 to build up as my project car and if there is a hatch, even better

LOL,my truck doesn't look good enough for pics.
But i guess it's time to make a small burnout video or something.I'll post it up soon.My beast went to the track for the first time last weekend.best was a 2.29/60ft and 10.3@67mph in 1/8mile.That's on a 4dr/2wd Yukon@almost 6k lbs not counting the 200+lbs of stereo equipment.
I think i did pretty good too,i ran a LT1 camaro both runs and he only had 1sec on me.
