View Full Version : Fitting a Body Kit

Ok, now i've spent the last 5 months rebuilding my mx-3 after a run in with an 80 year old lady, and the last step is fitting the body kit. Now when i bought this i wasn't smart enough to shop around, and really didn't have the money either, so i got a 7 layer Fiberglass kit, which really fawkin sucks since it looks likes its going to have to be custom fitted since the front bumper is like 3 inches too wide. Now anything mechanical i can handle, but i can't do body work, i had some lined out to fit the kit, and paint the whole thing for some trade out, but i'm pretty sure he's backed out and don't have enough money to have someone do it, since no one appears to want to buy the Impulse. Does anybody on here know enough about the fiberglass kits(besides that they're shit, that i found out after i bought it) to give some tips on getting this on or something, any help is appreciated. I included some pics as well.

the reason i don't have the money to do the body work is because i swaped in a new motor and tranny

yah that would be expensive to get fitted at a shop, there used to be some decent 'glass guys around here but i dunno anymore, i'd sell it on ebay and buy stock or urethane kit

Nothing wrong with fiberglass, it's more rigid and retains its shape better, so if it's designed right you can actually get some aerodynamic benefit. Urethane flexes like hell at highway speeds unless you brace the crap out of it. Real functional kits are usually fiberglass, like all Bomex kits.
edit: just don't hit anything

yeah well I got ahold of the guy that was going to do the paint and body in the first place, and i think we got it squared away to do it by the end of this week, so hopefully i can have it at the cruise this weekend, but the body kit will only be primer which sucks  , but atleast i'll beable to get it on the road.

yeah well this sucks i get it to the body shop and the guy said that it's way too fawkin wide, i knew it was, but i wasn't sure if it could still be fitted, but he said there's no way, i have to get it sent back, and wait for probably 2 weeks until i get another front bumper. Look at it for your self..
