View Full Version : CL on hold.

I've come to a realization as of late. :o
I will ONLY do so much to the CL, meaning I won't be gutting it for weight, turbocharging (unless I come into a nice chunk of money), or MAJORLY modifying it past a certain point, which I am near anyways.
:(
With the wedding and buying a house, I will not be chunking bits and pieces into the CL, only to be bogged down by an all-leather interior, power seats, and what comfort it all presents. I mean, the CL is NOT a race car, right??
:surp:
Just recently, my first motion to roll this way was when I decided to for-go the VAFC so that I could put some new tires on Gayle's Montero. The tires on it now are good tires, but they are so small and puny, that it looks wierd. I have realized that I am a person that will put money towards performance over looks any day of the week, but any car I own/drive has to pass a certain standard of appearance. Since we tend to be in the Montero more often, this will serve me well.
Another reason is that, I don't seem to get any real races lately that warrant more power. By this, I mean the only times I'm really in my car and ready to race are on the way to/from work (which traffic ALMOST prevents anyway, and I can't seem to hit up with someone who WANTS to race, at all), when I take a small jaunt by myself out somewhere on a Sat/Sun afternoon, or to meet up with a friend, which, again presents a field of traffic that is not interested at all in a decent race, and of course, on Fri/Sat. nights, which I realize that Spring/Summer is coming up and these nights will be more affluent with racers than recently, but, it seems that most the cars that WANT to race me right now, I would be struggling with OR without the VAFC. Of course, there is the track, but, to tell you the truth, no matter what I do on the track, I'm only going to beat the shit out of my engine and that car has to last for a while. As much as I would LOVE to have a real reason to swap the eng. for an H22, I still need the cash as well.

In the end, it is not worth it, right now. When the two previously mentioned events in my life have passed by, and things calm down, I will do what I can to dump some more back into the car. But until then, I have to be careful. I feel myself getting pulled back to where I was in El Paso, TX. I was obsessed and could not purchase a mod without realizing that there were 2 more I needed to max it out, and for each of those, 2 more. I am at a point, in the CL, where I am comfortable with what it does in the instances I have to do it, and I have to accept that, at this time.
I'm just going to keep a clean car, that IS modded a bit, and can hold it's own for the most part. I'll always have the one-off thing happening (atleast for now).

I know you're thinking "Who really gives a shit??", but I had to get this off my chest.

I know exactly where you're coming from.

I was thinking the exact same thing about my MX-6. I don't want to "hard tune" it.. I just want it to be nice with a moderate amount of mods. I don't want it to be a "race car"... Which is why I will be dumping some of my money into it... But I've got my '93 Probe GT for a project car. Lazarus & I will be doing some things to the Probe.. And my MX-6 will be my nice, daily driver.. And the Probe is the project car. I know, most of you don't like Probes, but thats okay. This is for me. Not anyone else.

Wow, marriage, house, thats some big stuff. :surp:

Maybe after everything gets settled, the wife will let you branch out and get a project car... Maybe even a garage out back!

Don't worry Jason, I'm in the same position- automotivally... as you.

Exactly...
See, Mali, I've done the serious car, so it's not like I've missed out. Of course, it's kind of like sex : If you've never had it, you don't REALLY realize what you're missing, but if you have, it's almost impossible to go without.
I've already been planning the project car for when I get the chance.
I just haven't decided on what I want to do.
Either a 4th gen Civic (I LOVE the body style) to gut, mod, and ghetto out as a strip car or I get an older 240sx, an older RWD Corolla, or a Datsun, something of that sort, and make it a drift/fun car, for tearing up parking lots and stuff. I'm not sure which one I want more. ANd, of course, EITHER one of those can be set up to run street/autocross courses, too. GRRR, I don't know yet.
:burnout: :shiftingfun: :wootburnout: :shiftingfun: :burnout:
It'll probably depend on how I feel at that precise moment.
But it'll be great to have a garage with the project stashed away in it for weekends. DEFINITELY something my kid, boy OR girl, can work on with me.

Yes, I agee with Lyric's statements. Taking your time with your car is good idea anyway because you have the time to get to know the car best, work out bugs, and just realize if it really is the type of car that you would feel good about spending all kinds of time and money. I'm in no rush myself. I find it more respectable when it seems more real anyway. Like, It might take me awhile to gather up enought extra cash. I dont think i would take as much joy into tuning my car if i just had shit loads of money to throw into my car all at once.
:burnout:

Plus I can't really do too much to my car right now considering my warranty is far from up. I get anxious, but I have to be patient. I need to break her in more
