When I had to get new keys cut for my Probe, the only thing that the VIN helped them with was what type/size of key it was.. It took them about an hour to get the pattern.. I don't know. :unsure:

it would be possible to have all the keys and vin's in a database... but it would require an enourmous effort by the automobile manufacturers... which they don't wish

Nissan does it. I'm sure others do too just the dealers around here don't have access to that type of information. Call the HQ for any car manufacture and I'm willing to bet that they all have their ways of logging each vin with each key pattern.

damnit....well that sucks for me cause i pulled my vin plate off and put it in mah glove box when i was painting my interior....so sad for those lewzers trying to get keys for my shyt
