My brother and I went by the Mitsubishi place in Fayetteville today and checked out that VR-4 they had for sale. It's a red '98 3000GT VR-4 twin turbo with leather interior and it's got 87,000 miles on it. The owner of it is asking for $21,000 and I was wondering if that's a reasonable price. I don't really know much about 3000GT's so I was going to ask you guys who know a good deal about cars if that sounded like a reasonable offer.

go to KBB.com, then just plug-in everything that car has then see what its worth, if its less than 21K, print it, go back to them and ask why in the hell its higher than KBB

unfortunately dealers don't use KBB...they use NADA and give a shit about what KBB says. Just say no to heavy vr4s. not worth it...especially maintenance

It's being sold by the owner, not the dealership. They just let them place it on their lot.

kbb said $18,850 but I'm not sure what all options were on this particular VR-4 but it was for a '98 VR-4 with 87k miles.

Scratch that price, that was under suggested retail and not private party. KBB's private party sale price: $14,660. That's quite the difference from $21,000.

if the dealership wasn't charging an outrageous price for the car... it wouldn't be a dealership...

if for some reason you are stuck on buying a VR4... against alot of people's recommendations... don't buy it from a dealership...

also, if ur gonna buy a car that's gonna break on you all the time, why not buy something cool, like a fd3 rx7 ?

No, I'm not buying it. A friend of mine kept telling me I needed to get that VR-4 so I finally went over and looked at it and found out the info on it. Now he'll quit hassling me about it. (He wants me to get rid of my Maxima and get a sportier car)

I've got a base 3kgt and it's been nice to me so far, minus the price to get some belts replaces cause the guy before me did a shotting cleanup job. I also looked at the vr-4, but I've about decided to keep my base. I dunno, what yall think? Should I look for a vr-4?

who needs a "sportier" car when you have a car that conistently runs 14's?? and is pimp!

Just say NO to a 3kgt of any kind. You DO NOT want to work on them and you WILL have to. Plugs alone are like a 4 hour job.

RX7 > VR-4. however, a VR-4 galant i here is a very nice sleeper car. v6, TT, AWD and AWS. they weigh as much as a TA.

i'd say pass.do a little research on the car around 120k the rod bearings WILL FAIL! i've seen it happen a few times now and found out it's the norm with these cars.if you buy one with high miles expect to rebuild the engine.

You should've heard the sales guy. He was a complete moron. Not that he was just trying to make the Bishi's look like the best things ever but that he obviously did not know what he was talking about. My brother said something about how he heard from friends who own Mistubishi's that the transmission gets really messed up around 90k miles and up. The sales guy just kinda stood there and then he said "Well at least it's not a Dodge, those transmissions will go out on ya fast." Then my bro said something about maybe if it was a Honda with a more reliable transmission then it might be worth the $21k. The sales guy was then like "Well actually those Honda transmissions aren't very good, they too kind of get messed up easily like the Dodge ones." I was just like wow, I can't believe we're still listening to this guy. He's obviously trying to say everything else is worse than ours. The biggest kicker was when we asked him about a trade-in, and about how much they'd (the Mitsubishi dealership) give me for my car and the guy looked like we had just asked him to explain quantum mechanics. He really stood there and stared at us for a while and finally said "A trade-in for what?", even though we distinctly said how much could we get on a trade-in for the Maxima. So we again said, "for the Maxima" and he said "I dunno. I think you guys should go over to the Nissan place to find out." That did it for us and me bro and I promptly left after that. I was embarrassed for the sales guy

HAHA!! Thats almost as funny as the salesmen at the Suzuki Dealer when I was gunna buy a Forenza.. We were on a test drive and the maybe late 50's dealer starts going on a rant on how awesome the radio was then cranks it on some country.. Then to top it off he turned down the radio & rolled down his window and said "try the power on this sucker & do a burnout if ya want" so needless to say I spun the tires & redlined the crap outta it before I shifted into 2nd & swaked the tires.. It was fun and the Forenza was actually a nice clean & kinda quick ride too.. Then when we got back to the dealership he tried explaining all the options of the car and I would ask him complicated questions just to see him try and make something up to sell the car.. did you know the 1/4 time on a suzuki is "probly around 12 sec" or the 0-60 is "uhh.. I'll have to look that up" and my favorite.. did you know that the Suzuki Forenza is one of the top 10 fastest import sedans???.. Yeah, I kinda left there like "wow" too.. So if your in for a good time go to Kent Dobbs Suzuki and see if you can find the old guy dealer.. he's a trip!

I think its funny to know more than a salesman. i-VTEC on a TSX is unknown to the Acura salesmen lol.

I understand about moving on to a different car, but are you just sick of the Maxima or what? I love those Maximas like yours. Sure they aren't 'sporty', but they are really nice, and very torquey :). Plus, you have a Nissan techy buddy (me) to work on it lol.

No, did you see my other post? A friend of mine wants me to get rid of it and kept telling me to go look at the VR-4 at the Bishi place so I finally gave in and went and found out the info on it. I have no plans to get rid of the Max anytime soon, unless I found a great deal on another car I wanted more. :ohyeah:

And if you talk to most Maxima owners (including myself) they'd refer to it as a 4DSC: 4 Door Sports Car :2thumbsup: B)
