So we got this Pioneer DEH-P4500MP (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=2139038&cat=14632&type=19&dept=3944&path=0%3A3944%3A3947%3A96481%3A14632#long_descr), It worked fine and was a clean install in a new car. (worked for like 2 weeks)
We ran preouts and a remote wire to the amp in the rear. We pluged up the amp to make sure everything was fine and functioning, then removed the remote wire from the amp while everything was on. As soon as the Remote wire was removed, all output to the speakers died except the preouts.
I tested and probed the harness but still nothing, no reset button on the radio anywhere. We removed the unit and re-installed it after a while, but still nothing. The harness + a 9Volt = speaker popping. So.... WTF?
Even if we had accidentally grounded out the remote or even tapped it to 12V, wouldnt it still work? Most of my old radios woulda just froze up and required a reset because of internal circuit protection. There wasnt any "popped transister" smells or smoke either.
Are these model pioneers just shit?
Could it be just a bad unit from the factory?
We are thinking that the preouts didnt produce the proper voltage for a amplifier in the first place and they didnt have any good sound characteristics anyhow.
It is being returned. Just wanted to know if anyone knows whats up?
