I work in the automotive electronics field, and have been wondering something. I've noticed over the past couple years, the want for car audio has declined slightly. I am asking you as the general public if stereo systems for vehicles are just not as popular as they were before, or what exactly the deal is. Thanks gys!

Ive have noticed that the the thumping in the streets have died down. I got my sysyem at Best Buy over 1 year ago and it was the greatest thing in the world, i bumped it all the time, but now ive noticed that i stoped, i think it got old after a while, its that or there really isnt much new stuff out there too or everyone has their system already B)

If id stop spending all my money on motor stuff and actually had a nice car is still put a system in it. Alot of ppl in the area allrady have systems and dont like spending the money 2 update ever year. So except for the ppl putting the systems in there new cars ppl prolly just dont care enough 2 update. :dunno:

yea if its not cuz of that its cuz companies include shit like A/C and defroster with the stereo so it makes it imposible, and they make them huge taking up all of the center console

Once the maintenance issues are worked out with the PGT, I'll be getting a couple of 10's hopefully..
I know Laz isn't upgrading the Focus because it came with an Audiophile system stock, so he isn't too worried about upgrading..
I think some of it may be also that the people who usually have audio are getting into import performance too.. And if you notice, alot of people give shit to the people who list their audio as mods.. Who the hell cares? They are modifications to the car from the stock form, I still consider audio upgrades as a mod. The "performance" guys are all like, "Thats rediculous, audio just weighs the car down, thats not a mod!" ..etc. I think that is part of the slow fall, because people are scared of criticism... I say screw it. Audio is a vital part of a car to me.. It always has, always will..
Back in the 70's, a nice car consisted of nice paint, nice wheels and a nice stereo... We aren't too far from that concept now.. Audio is here to stay, some people need to realize that.

Yes, I agree. The first thing I did to the Bu' was get the system in it. One of the first things I did to the Teg was put a system in it. It sounds pretty damned good too! :D I do agree with what everyone is saying. I'd just like to see more people pay more attention to their stereo besides the damned Roadmaster 6x9's they have.

i'm coming tomorrow (wed) to have you install my shit! and talk over some ideas
I've been bumpin my subs since I first bought subs from mali back in the day. I have a quick switch to the remote of course (for intersections and cops) but I've not been hassled. I suppose they mainly stop peeps with 30 subs that tend to shatter out peoples windows, but none the less, it doesnt go on your record since it is an ordinance.
I couldnt find the exact code but you might find it Here (http://library6.municode.com/gateway.dll/AR/arkansas/1?f=templates&fn=default.htm&npusername=10043&nppassword=MCC&npac_credentialspresent=true&vid=default)
There are occations when I tend to just turn off the bass and enjoy the day drive but usually the bass just makes me relax more.

The decline hasn't been the decline in the "want for car audio". The decline has been in the subwoofer purchases. Some areas of car audio have increased over the past couple of years. Such as head units. With the release of satellite radio and the ever growing popularity of MP3 data, head units have gotten a boost. Also our sales at CC have shown slight improvement in speakers. So it would seem to me that the car audio scene is starting to be taken over by the traveling consumer. These customers care less about the thump and more about the sound. Also it's kind of expensive to buy navigation, enormous growth recently, and still afford subs. lol

well, in Rogers there is the gay sound ordinance, and we didn't have to worry for a while cause Gary Angel was bumpin his and they were after him, but he isn't around as much now, so they have nothing better to do than pulll others over for it. One day a cop stood out in front of the station (down the street from the High School) and was directing people into the parking lot because it was "too loud".

i dont really think that it has gotten less popular over the years...i just think that those who wanted it have it and those who dont just arent buying for obvious reasons....

most of the car eletronics is so reliable once u buy a headunit or speakers (except amps. me and amps don't get along?? haha) no need to buy another for a couple of years. unless u just really hav to hav the newest stuff. Im just happy that my stuff works and if its not broke,, Well...

Mobile electronics sales have increased here recently. Christmas season sucked, but January looked very promising for us. Our new store will introduce the "New Pawn USA" look, incorporating a large install bay and custom sound room w/ touch screen selection controls. We are going to try our hardest to work with Custom Speed Engineering and Auto Obsessions to make this spring/summer season prosperous and fun for businesses and customers in the Northwest Arkansas area by hosting car shows, USACi audio competitions, etc. Look out!
