I went to Mokan last friday and it was my first time to race at a legal dragstrip (instead of the streets.) I didnt do so well. First of all my Camaro isnt designed for drag racing. I didnt have drag slicks so I slid around for a hundred feet or so then I finally got traction. After that it was a lot of fun to see how the Ls6 did on the straights. (I think road racing is more exciting)

Its intresting how there is a totally different caliber of people at different racing events. A lot more southern-ish people at drag races. Ive road raced since I was 16 so dont make fun of me because ive never been to a drag race.

So you drive a 1996 Camaro with a LS6?

<_<

do you mean an LT4?? LS6 is a z06 motor which is 1999+. It would have been a PITA to swap a LT1 set up over to a LS1 set up. While yes they are both "350's" they are different blocks, computers, and everything else under the hood. If you went through all that trouble i'd love to see it though. Racing is harder than it looks isnt it? Just go out on a back road and practice launching all day and you will do a lot better next time to take it to the track. I went from a 2.4 best 60' to a 2.1. What did you run anyways the worst 4 gen f-body run ive seen at mokan was 14.2 out of a formula firebird but then someone else drove it and got a 13.8.

Alot of people get an eye-opener when they sit there talking about "Oh, I should be doing 14's" then they hit the track and are doing 17's... Then they realize WHAT they need to work on, and how to get to their ideal time. The track is a saviour. B)

i dont know. It would be cheaper to get a ls1 f body and do a ls6 conversion rather than get a lt1 fbody and convert it over to ls1/ls6.

We took an LS1

We put on LS6 intake manifold
'' valley thing
'' heads
'' fuel system
port and polish
383 stoker kit
COMPcams road race cam
titanium valve springs and retainers
tit. pushrods
lightweight flywheel
centerforce clutch
1pc alum. driveshaft
rear-end torsion bar
Pacesetter headers
flowmaster race mufflers
and of course k&N
few other things I probably havent mentioned b/c i cant think straight right now.

It wasnt a pain because it had a v6 when we bought the camaro last september. eBay - $3000. It already had some suspension work and the roll cage in it so we just needed to do engine stuff.

More importantly we did a few more susp. things to it. Would you like a list?

how did you do in the 1/4? It can't be any worse than 13's with that. Thats a badass set up btw :2thumbsup: :worship:

Thanks. We did high 12's but I think we can do a lot better than that if we had drag slicks. I was running hard compound tyres that are used for sideways adhesion instead of straightline.

with a pro driver a z06 will do a 11.9. Now with ur motor mods you should be able to pull something better than that. Then again with your road race suspension im sure you weight more. Any idea what ur curb weight is?

no I dont drive it on the street b/c its not street legal. The noise and no insurance really are the only problems. although im trying to talk my dad into getting some insurance. Im going to the track (Hallett) at the end of this month. Look under events/attractions forum for the dates.

I did drive it for some time in december and January because I had wrecked my civic and didnt have anything else to drive, but that was when we had the v6 in it.

3300 lbs on a camaro is pretty good. they come stock at around 3600 (i beleive) so a 300 lb weight reduction is quite a bit.

Actually the LS6 we put in weighs less than the v6 that we had in it before.
aluminum vs. iron I guess

wow i didn't think the v6 weighed that much. there is def. not a 300 lb difference between the 2 though. maybe 100 lbs or so. very cool man, i like the TA body style more, but my sister just got a v6 camaro for her first car. i still gotta drive my fn explorer. i hate my car.......
