View Full Version : 98 Civic EX Vibration Problem

My friend has a 98 Honda Civic EX with 115,xxx miles, VTEC 1.6 ltr

Installed Gready 3-2-1 header and cat back system. The Computer was detecting too many exhaust problems so i built some devices to mask the sensor signals, everything worked Great then the A/C pump blew up.

We recently installed a "Modded" OBD I Computer (the one im looking for) and it reduces signal from a few of the problematic sensors onboard.

A new A/C Pump has been installed but now (even with the OBD II) the car majorly vibrates intermittenly... the power cuts out as well when the A/C is on and when at idle about 650 rpm. New Engine mounts have been installed as well.

A couple people have described it as a wire grounding out every once in a while. I cant find any issues with it and dont have too much experience on Honda's.

I was thinking it could have something to do with the Idle control circuits or possibly low compression in a cylinder. We havent really been worried too much about it but now that there is more honda guys on here, you may have an answer.
The old OBD II computer caused the headlights and dash lights to dim and flash intermittenly as well, everything is great with this OBD I.

Thanks - hope there's enough info there.

How did you mod it??? Did you cut wires, or did you purchase the OBD2 to OBD1 adapter harness? I have a P28 ECU for sale if you are interested.

It was already programmed with a chip from one of Ty's Civics. We did use a converter adapter. No wires were cut or damaged. All of my "homemade" electronics were all done properly as well. They mainly just put a signal to the computer in-place of the actual sensor output (all below both 1 and .1 Volt)

And like i said, we are looking for one mainly to upgrade ourself. I need to understand the EEPROM programming methods for later use. We can even use an Automatic and convert it to a standard if someone might have one.

We wanna do it all less than $100. Cause of Christmas and sh*t ^_^

Just a thought :

Make sure that your friend didn't just leave their phone on vibrate and drop it in the seatback...HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I'm sorry, I'm not helping at all...but you gotta admit that's pretty damn funny!!
