View Full Version : Chevy or Ford?

Quite frankly i am a GM man myself but i have some respect for the Mustang like NEW (03) Cobras, GT 500s, Mach 1s and some others but i prefer the TA/Camaro body and performance more. GM can actually make a 300 hp + motor without it being blown or turboed. take the Z06 405 bhp!. what do you guys and gals think? i am up for any discussion and will not take any offense to any opinions.

i've always been a ford motors type of guy, owning a ford truck and a mercury muscle car, and my sister had a stang and my mom drives a mazda (fomoco owned), however, my girlfriend is an avid chevy girl, she drives a camaro and she's starting to rub off on me ^_^
oh well.....

WHAAPSH! WHAAPSH!!
I have to say I'm a Chevy man, bad things tend to happen when I work on a Ford...

Quote the opposite. I've ran 350's before at the track and my 351 tears them apart. I like Fords layouts (older blocks), there easier to work with as compared to the 350's (ie: distributor is in the back on chevy's). Parts are easier to buy with Chevy's but I think Fomoco makes better quality. I do drive a camaro and I do like it but I still like fords better. Go GT-40!!!!!!!!!
I like the sound of a good 350 or 396 even 454!!!! But the ford blocks IMO, seem to adjust well with cheap modifications - Especially the older 302 motors. Compair a 302 and 305!!! They just did something terribly wrong with the 305 head configuration.
I dont know about the old Chevy 302 back in Smokey Unick's time. I had a 454 bored to 468 that made 540 HP with stock cam (seemed to be stock) and no headers with a 750 4 barrel. I bet you add some pocket change to it and that baby would scream. A guy in Bentonville built the motor, Bob Munro - i believe he was a nascar guy for years along with Sheet metal Fab for 14 yrs.
I was gonna build the motor up but its still in the 4x4 setting out back. Imports just sorta took my time up.
Since i bought my mustang, i have gotten fond of the borla and Flowmaster sound on a mustang 302 or 351, but i still prefer my 350. Oh, forgot the 460
These are just my opinions tho, not trying to cause any arguments. :P

we've owned many ford and i can't say that any of them fell apart. Bought the camaro and I wish I didn't ... though now after I shelled out some cash i love it but id stick to my fords. At any rate ... Fords or Chevy I'd take either over a Honda

I do like that 5.0s a lot. due to the light weight and easy ability to mod, they will run almost as good as any TA or Camaro factory (minus the SS) my friend ran a 5.0 in his 95 TA and barely won and he was trying hard to keep up (that was pre new block) as for the old 302s in the Z28 is GOD. 400+ ponies from the factory. WOW!!

they great think about Mazadas and the RX-7/8 is the motor. i love the fact that i can redline at 9k on the new RX-8. fast and furious (i know i shouldn't even be respected but i am sure it is the 4th gen RX-7) are my favorites of the Mazda/Honda/Acura/Mits world. subarus are my fav. imports. WRX STI 300 hp 300 ft lbs of torque and 12.9 in the quarter mile. awesome /drool. that will be my first car when i get in a career (>3 years now)

Jeez Stang, your sig is ruthless! I really don't care about people hating Hondas. I've owned 5 cars so far, and the little amount that I've driven my Civic is better than all of the other cars put together. The Alero was a good car.... WAS...
Yeah Patrick, I'll be sure to send you some pictures of the Alero sitting at Smith's. Its sad....

hey crayon eater
I use to work at Kent Ryle Chevrolet here in rogers. I saw many Aleros and drove a bunch too, i never thought they were good cars - they seemed like a family version of a Cavalier which there too is a whole nother post ^_^ .
Did anything terrible ever happen to yours? What do you have to say thats good about em? Maybe these were just major shit boxes i was around <_<
hey, Triepsyn likes em  shhhh dont tell i said that

My Alero was the V6 GS coupe with some sport package thing. It was a pretty quick car for being bone stock. And it handled very well too. I don't know man, different people have different tastes, but that was a good car. The only model higher than mine had leather seats.
I wrecked it pretty bad, just being stupid. Haven't heard back from the insurance company yet, but I really think that they are going to total it. And all that it went through in that wreck, I'm surprised it held up as well as it did. I'll post some pics if you guys want to see it, give you a chance to laugh at how stupid I was.
73Stang, its cool about the Honda thing, and you're right, Hondas have next to no torque at all; but they're so light they don't need it. Thats another reason why I like the Alero a lot, I had plans for it, and it seemed that nobody was modding Aleros. Coming from a Honda, that was a very welcome idea. :P

yall are ruthless,
......must not have been paying much attention at mokan that one time (last import drag) he beat a LATE 80s supra and a turbo talon, i've never driven a "family" sedan that could roast the tires just by hittin the gas (automatic) and give everyone a nice smoke show, i never thought much of aleros until i met jason, his really surprised me, i've got respect for em

I'm a big fan of Alero's. Honestly. I knew a guy named Justin Payne that had a black Alero, that thing had some power. Big comfy leather seats, the works. Sexy car, really is.
I'm a big fan, always have been, always will be.
So, once you get the insurance info straightened out, are you getting a new one or what?

Ah, I like aleros. A couple of friends from stereotypes built an alero owned by a guy named Robbie Bryant, you will love it when you see it.... Go to sounddomain.com and then go to members rides, olds, alero, then look for Aftermath..... Notice the Diamond Audio equipment, we sponsored him when we bought out stereotypes.

I won't be getting any money from the insurance company because their payoff is almost as much as we still owe. Bought the car new with 4 miles off of the showroom floor for $21k, now its only worth $6,600. I'll be bumming it for a couple years, driving something that will just get me around.
Maliwho, I've actually seen the Aftermath Alero. If its the one I'm thinking of thats completely shaved, 20's on the rear and 18's on the front; suicide doors.... Definitely nice.

Im gonna say Ford probably because I own one. My Mustang is such a good car; Great ride; easy to drive; Lots of power too. I know that the f-body's have a lot more power but I dont think I could ever give up my stang.

Since I haven't said my peace yet, I'm going with Chevy on this one. If you look through the past couple decadesm, (and even further in most cases) whichever level of performance that Ford put out, Chevy was able to beat hands down. I.E. V6 camaro/firebird>V6 Mustang
LT1 Camaro/Firebird> 4.6 GT
LS1 Camaro/Firebird>>>4.6 GT :D
C5 Corvette>03 Cobra(VERY CLOSE)
Z06 Corvette-Where's Ford on this one?
I will have to admit that Ford is finally make some steps in the right direction. With the new Ford GT coming out and the new mustangs being more powerful, Ford should be much more competitive. Especially since they don't even have to worry about the Camaro/Firebird anymore. :(
One more thing about the Ford GT. All I can say is: Have fun while you're on top!
C6 Corvette=405 BHP
C6 Z06 Corvette=500+BHP
C6 ZL1 Corvette=625 BHP (Yeah, it's a nasty one! :D )
SmokeyTheBear
Jan-7th-04, 6:31 pm
yep, chevy has always beat ford when it came to affordable performance. the new Ford GT is gonna be bad, but it is gonna be 125k or something around that figure. now i would be willing to bet, you get the lingenfelter (sp??) stage 4 and some good suspension and i bet that corvette will out run one. (Q/M and trackside)
FlawleZ
Jan-7th-04, 11:12 pm
Don't even need to have a lingenfelter. Read my post. :)

C5 Corvette>03 Cobra(VERY CLOSE)
c5 1/4 13.3<03 cobra 12.8
Then we strapped on the test gear and made a few runs at the track. The results were staggering—the Cobra's acceleration time matched a Camaro SS's. The Cobra scooted to 60 mph in only 4.8 seconds and through the quarter in 13.5 seconds at 105 mph. Our last Z28SS hit 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and did the quarter in 13.5 seconds at 107 mph.
Thats straight from car and driver and thats an 01' cobra stock.
As for the z06 ford made the cobra R. Made as a road race car it has awesome handling and would wipe the track with a z06. but in a straight race here it is.
00' cobra r 13.2 sec @ 110 mph
01' Z06 12.7 sec @ 113 mph
Id go w/ the cobra R :-) and always w/ ford
