Well after the intake was put on, my uncle was going to run his 2 race cars (mid-low 5 second 1/8 mile cars) so Dave and I followed down to play.

My tool set was taken out but not the other tools in bins I have screwed to the trunk floor or my sub. On the last run I yanked the cone filter off. 3/4 tank of gas (14.5 gallons or so actually).

0.6330 Reaction
2.1065 60 ft
5.6122 330 ft
8.4693 1/8th ET
86.81 1/8th mph

Calculated density altitude to 2099ft above sea level. On a day with great air would have been high 7 second passes (which is what I was shooting for) so I'm close to my goals.

I really want to get my car weighed so I'll know how much rwhp the intake gave me. If the car is 3500 with me in it or more (and I'm sure it is) then I picked up 20rwhp minimum over the old intake, should be more once the car is tuned for the extra airflow and I rig up a ram air system to draw in outside air instead of under hood air (90 degrees plus).

Need a stall to get my 60ft down pretty bad.

Overall I'm very pleased. Especially since my first run was against an 03 Cobra who dynoed 430rwhp. He beat me by .25 since that run I had a 8.59@84.91 (was slower because the car short shifted first gear on me). So between manually shifting running through the traps on the rev limiter and pulling the filter off I picked up 1.9mph (around 20 hp).

what software do you have to tune that thing with? ls1edit? or something you have to buy like HPtuner?

thunderstruck507

I don't have any sadly, but it was previously tuned with hp tuners

Yeah now I just want to get the car weighed. I think I'm going to be closer to 3650 with me in the car. If that's the case then I am right around the 360rwhp area now. Which is within 10hp of my goal for the car.

Nice times! You ought to buy a license so I can tune it for ya!

BTW, Brian, I have HPTuners if you want to come over sometime and play around with a dummy file just to see what it's got.

as soon as ethan gets that wideband i prolly will, i think we can do better with it in person than i can have done sending it back in

mostly need to make sure the a/f ratio is in line at WOT and rescale the MAF table for the new airflow rate, also would like the low throttle shifts to be later and get my WOT shifts set back to 6000-6200 as shifting there gained me .2 over letting it shift itself at 5800

Thats not bad. Its almost as fast and quick as my Evo did in the 1/8th at Mokan. You should do some suspension work and tires to get that 60' down and you will be right where my car was.

he's got some nice toyo proxies on there, i think what's hurting him the most is lack of a stall. i don't believe he can preload any more than 1100 rpm w/out the tires breaking loose

Unless you are talking about Toyo's new drag radial, he needs something better. That is also why the tires spin.

I'm not saying that a taller stall wouldn't help, but good tires would help so much more.

gotta agree with him here. what size rubber are you using as well?? a good suspension should drop those numbers significantly. still not bad though, congrats on being that close to your goal man.

The back needs real shocks pretty badly. Air shocks are not good for anything but weight compensation when carrying a load lol. Stupid 70s.

Next time I am home I might see if I can borrow a set of slicks from a friend too.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with how it did for a first time out, especially since the tune still needs work.

I'm not trying to discredit you. That is pretty good for a heavy ass Chevelle with a pretty mild LS1.

thunderstruck507
Mar-12th-09, 1:47 pm
Oh I know, I didn't take it as that at all... it is what it is. My cam is ground on comps mildest ls1 lobes...noone even uses them anymore as they're pretty low lift with mild ramp rates. I was trying not to overdo it and overachieved on that slightly.

If the engine is ever out I will be going to something else (likely something traditional split 228/230 with close to or over .600 lift on both sides).

My mph suggests I have the power already to hit my 7 second goal in the 1/8th though, so with tires and stall working together I should be where I had originally wanted.

Of course as always it will never end...this car will have heads in its distant future too. But I want to redo the paint, do brakes/suspension/wheels/tires before I worry about building more power. Sure there will be a tranny rebuild in there somewhere too haha.

you can use the weigh scales they use for trucks at the hiland dairy foods center in south fay it has a digital readout outside the building thats very visible from the scale

the best time to do that is wed-friday from 9pm to midnight
obviously they arent gonna like that so you will need to leave at a relativly quick pace, head out towards greenland and take the bypass

A group of us went there a couple months ago and their scale was off. It kept reading different numbers when no one was on it. Never zeroed out. But hell, if my car weighs 3400lbs with me, random junk, and a half tank of gas, then call me one happy camper.

Btw, congrats on the times, Thunderstruck. Looks like you'll be doing very nicely once you take care of those little things holding it back.

one of the compressors on the exit side of the scale got stuck down, truckers had to knock it loose, it works now though

thunderstruck507
Mar-13th-09, 12:08 pm
nice I might try that, if that doesn't work I'll just use the CAT scales between springdale and tonitown, it's only $8 and they are certified accurate so they don't have to pay truckers fines

zerocool5468
Mar-14th-09, 6:43 pm
the scale is pretty accurate at hiland. when my car was near stock it was very close the manfucaturers listed curb weight. after i took some weight out its down to 2880 with me in it.

With all the dirt track racers around here, surely they'll let you borrow a set of their scales. This way you not only get an accurate weight, you get a front/rear and corner weight - might just show you where you need weight and where you don't. Move it around if you will - kinda like moving your battery to the trunk. My question to you is this - are you just gonna drive it on the street or are ya gonna drag race it? If you're just gonna drive it on the street, leave it alone. Runs good enough to smoke the tires doesn't it? Thought so. If you gonna drag it regularly, might not hurt to scale it and invest in some shocks/tires/etc. If my old ass can tell you anything, don't try to make a race car out of your daily ride. Been there, done that... it NEVER works out where you're happy either way. lol!!

thunderstruck507
Mar-15th-09, 5:41 pm
oh I know that, plus I like corners so my springs are stiff as shit and not drag springs by any means...

just a mild stall and an extra set of wheels I can mount better tires on for strip duty will be about the extent of my mods for drag racing...that and if I come up with some other ways to lose weight

that's why I think my goal of a 7 second 1/8 daily driver is pretty decent...I like turning and getting good fuel mileage too much to take it further

go g-machine, make friends with hotchkis and brembo

Pace
Mar-15th-09, 7:33 pm
+1 for hotchis. Good stuff.

thunderstruck507
Mar-15th-09, 7:46 pm
I have hotchkis springs in the rear. Front are adjustable type used in round track racing. The set I have are almost double the stock rate for a SS car and several hundred lbs more than hotchkis.

Need new spindles, upper and lowers, wheels/tires, then I can also add corvette brakes. Need to do a disc conversion out back. Oh and shocks...both my front ones are basically toast right now.

It never ends.

That, my friend, is the understatment of the century. I so remember saying "once i get into the 12's, I'll quit." I look where I am now and say "Yup, it never ends."

thunderstruck507
Mar-16th-09, 3:54 pm
yeah...haha but oh well that's why I have it...honestly if I ever ran out of things to do I would have to get another car to build, I can't stand not having something to work on

seems the ls1 guys still think I'm down on power...several people knowledgeable people think I am 4-6 mph slow still and really want to see the car tuned so maybe I've still got more left to squeeze than I think

my buddy has hptuners and we street tuned my car. hptuners is a lot more user friendly than hondata

thunderstruck507
Jun-23rd-09, 3:27 pm
my brother picked up efi live so I can tune his truck and my car (he got it cheap...dirt cheap)

we just need a wideband o2 sensor now and then I can start

from looking at the tune, he didn't tune for the right size injectors and my a/f is set to about 11.5 so it's pretty decently rich

so far the car is better to drive and all I've done is readjust part throttle shifts so it doesn't upshift so soon even when I am giving it no throttle (rolling through lights or down hills)

just kill the 60' and you will be flying!

thunderstruck507
Jun-23rd-09, 7:30 pm
That is next on the list. I want to save some extra money though so I can freshen up the transmission and beef it a little while it's out.

I'm hoping to get down to a 1.8 60ft at least and I have at least 20hp to find in the tune, possibly as much as 40 but I'm not gonna get my hopes up about it. I did weigh the car and with me and my shit it's a hair over 3800lbs ( I weigh 135).

Good news is the track in Paris, TX is opening this month so I should be able to run most weekends that I feel like it and get some more slips. Will come in handy for tuning purposes to track my mph.

First things first I need to get a new MAF sensor and see if it fixes my short shift problem...the other day it started working properly and it felt like a whole different car. My shifts firmed up and went back to their proper RPM and the car felt like it gained a ton of balls up top.

I also need to slow down my timing, it comes in too early and the pcm retards it then adds it back in slowly (doesn't get back to full timing until it's about to shift)...it will run better I think if I just bring it in a hair later so that it never retards it in the rpm ranges it wouldn't need it. Really hope that makes sense...

Jun-25th-09, 5:07 pm
you should put it on a diet!

thunderstruck507
Jun-25th-09, 5:33 pm
not really a lot left to lose, its a street car...I refuse to go without stereo, speakers, sub, power steering, power brakes, ect.

granted when I run at the track I can pull my tools, sub, spare parts, and only put in a couple gallons of fuel as opposed to a full tank, and that will save a decent bit of weight

thunderstruck507
Oct-4th-09, 12:57 am
new best tonight before we got rained out:

8.42@86mph with a 2.08 60ft, was about 77* with high humidity and the car was pulling timing

I added in about a gallon of 110 octane race fuel but it started to rain before my second pass, so I was bummed because the night started promising...this was not only my best pass but also the first time at this track I've even come close to my previous best...the car has felt stronger than normal the last couple days so the track times back up my butt dyno

oh well I get a free trip to the track later, and by then I might have the transmission rebuilt with the 3600 stall...then it will really be time to tear some ass

drvngstorm05
Oct-5th-09, 3:15 am
7's w/ that stall? i think so

looking for wheels and drag tires again, going to be shooting for a 1.7 or better 60ft and around a 7.7@90 or better if all goes well

aleady have a cam, thats why I REALLY need a stall...car is crap on the low end, its a copy of the tr230 on that page you posted

also have some cutouts I use at he strip (worth right at .1 and 1 mph but makes some quicker cars redlight when they hear me leave and scare the shit out of slow ass stock cars)

I'm looking for a pair of wheels that match mine because I'm anal like that, and gonna mount some drag radials on them

I do need shocks but I'm getting circle track shocks that match my springs because I don't like sloppy suspension and love corners too much for a full drag setup

already have adjustable upper control arms and boxed lowers

60ft 2.03
