Lol. So what if the largest displacement motor (the 5.0L 302) only put out like 130 horses (and only gained a couple mpg)... So what if when the car was struck from the rear both doors jammed and 9/10 times it caught fire and the people inside either suffered 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree burns or DIED.(See: Ford Pinto/Mercury Bobcat) So what if Ford stuck Italian "Ghia" emblems all over a horrendously styled, opera-window-adorned excuse for a mustang.

Those ugly, terribly designed, slow sons-a-bitches SOLD dammit. That's all the new director of Ford cared about.

I'll readily admit the motors were crap. And I'll admit that I'd kinda be scared to drive one due to the terror of a rear end collision. But I kinda like the way the fastback Cobra IIs look.

Any and all reviews concerning the Mustang II are nothing but people saying how terrible it is. And it was. It was a terrible, terrible idea. But thanks to newer, better engines and doors that don't lock you inside to suffer a fiery inferno of death, they can be made into decent cars. It just takes work. =]

Im with C&D on this one the Mustang II was trash then and trash now and trash then. I just wish Clarkson would make a Heaven & Hell part 2 so that he could send the Mustang II straight to hell where it deserves to be.

Seriously, just because the car was a marketing disaster doesn't mean it was a bad car. The car was decades ahead of it's time by means of styling. Smart, determined, forward thinking people got it....all the rest didn't.

I thought the bashing of the Merkur was not that bad compared to the others, the only major gripes they had was the euro-esque styling.

i dont like that the article rights off thier words as the opinion of everyone in the nation, which is why i tend to stay away from reading any of the mainstream magazines because they are all slightly slanted against or for a certain brand or country which is what this merkur in the article fell victim to
