:o
Ok...
As I said in another post, my fiance's nephew came over Saturday night and we played the new Need For Speed game, NFS : Underground. I was skeptical, as I always am with any capitalization of street racing (i.e. F&F, 2F2F, and half the games out for PS2/Xbox, etc).

Well, the verdict is in...I'm blown, the fuck, away!!!

It is about as close to REAL street racing as I have seen on any video gaming system.
Here are my opinions :
Pros --- Above all, the thing that makes this game the closest to reality, THERE ARE NO SUPERCARS!!! You know what I mean : Supras, Skylines, Evos, etc...not even a Sylvia..come to think of it, there're no real JDM racers (don't get me wrong, I love them to death)...this is like high school street racers, which, bash them if you will, is how WE ALL STARTED OUT (at least the REAL ones). There is a Civic, Neon (not SRT4), Miata, 180sx, Tiburon, Eclipse, uuuuum..I can't think of more off the top of my head, but, there is an RX7, but, hell, we got one of those on here, right 3rdgen?? Also, the mods are not far from the ones you see out on the streets right now. And you have to REALLY work to get them, too. You race for respect AND money...the respect UNLOCKS mods (performance and appearance) and then you have to PAY for the mods. Another reality is the way the cars handle...your take off looks more real and the way the car drives is closer to reality, too. Now, as far as handling, it is, for the most part, pretty on point, but there are a few discrepancies (for example, I was doing pro-style drifting in a FWD civic with little modification..I'm talking REAL drifting, like the kind you can't really do in a FWD car). But, for the most part it is all pretty cool.
:shiftingfun:
Now, cons --- ... you'll recognize a scene from both F&F movies before and after every race. In other words, there is a huge group of beautiful people (comp. generated, anyway) starting you off and there at the end. Also, all races are 4 cars in 4 lanes, which isn't unrealistic, but, c'mon...not ALL races can be like that.
:gold: :silver: :bronze:
A pro, in my eyes, is that there is traffic on this game. Now, pretty much anywhere you are, if you are doing actual syndicated, underground racing, you are going to be doing it with as little witnesses (outside the scene) as possible, which means roads that are not in use, so this kinda strikes from the reality. But it DOES make the game more fun.
That's pretty much the rundown of the game, in my opinion. I DO suggest that you put aside all skepticism temporarily and give it a chance. With the factors of the game that DO contain realistic substance, and 2 player mode (not to mention I-link mode), this is a game that some friends and myself could spend half the night playing without batting an eye.

Here, in case you want to get a very little taste, try this link.
NFS Underground Challenge (http://nfschallenge.ea.com/)

It doesn't do the game justice, but it's a cool time killer.
:shiftingfun: Happy racing!

There is a supra and a skyline on the game. Were on 95 of 111 stages things so we have all the cars now. U have 2 play the "underground" thing 2 get those cars tho.

I saw a preview on tv but am not too up to date with console system games.
It appears to be like Driver 2 prolly kinda low graphics with nice looking cars, lots of fighting and weapons. I wanna know if its out or comming out cause i wanna blow crap up

Yah, I actaully got to thinking today....well, not really. Actually, Marlon pointed out that my desktop background on the computer at work is of a R34 on the drift track...too bad I couldn't put 2 and 2 together.
I figured I hadn't raced that far yet.
I only logged 2 hrs on the game so far.

Yah, Prelude, I've still got it...I rented it from Blockbuster...it's due back Wednesday if you want to rent it from them...I'll probably return it in the dropbox overnight so I can play it that night, but it should be avail. first think Thurs. morning.

well, if you want the supra, just do the drift tracks over and over again.. you get shitloads of "style" points... i got my supra on race 65.. :P

but as for the game itself, i give it a 5 out of 10... it's a pretty fun game, it's just really really really really lame. This game appeals to the FATF streetracing stereotype.... you HAVE to completely rice your car out to win the game.. you have too.. stickers and pulsating neons, all kinds of dumbshit... you HAVE to have these on your car to win... The whole "respect" rating is just fucking stupid, that is not how it works. Yea, i'll put a wing on my FWD car to get respect.. or a fucking "roof scoop"... you do that in real life, and people will label you a complete moron, cause you are, and you are also a riceboy loser..

so in conclusion, the game is kinda fun, but it emulates absolutely nothing... NOTHING in real life.. anybody who claims this game is close to streetracing, obviously considers streetracing, lining up 2 17 second civics with altezza's and a dumb bodykit in front of the walmart... in the real world, it's nothing like this. The physics are pretty crappy, they are just like all the other NFS games, exactly the same feel.. Unfortunately, there are no police, which i thought were cool in the other NFS games... There are none, just random traffic blocking all the best ways to turn... The xbox version of the game has super spiffy motion blur, so it looks just like the lame FATF dragscenes, where everything gets blurry(blurryness also comes into effect when you hit your NAAAAAWWWZZ)

gameplay 8 (pretty fun actually)
lameness 100000
rice factor 100000
stupidity factor 1000000
realism -1000000
overall 5/10

play grand turismo

Unfortunately, everyone's entitled to their own opinion...
Just kidding...

For real, I almost completely agree with everything said here (I was trying to be less negative as I am told I always am), but when it comes down to it, your right.
This game is not close to streetracing as it is...I believe I said above that it's the closest I've played, but that's not saying much.
The gameplay itself IS pretty much a carbon copy of the movie we all hate and the fact that the more appearance mods you get, the more respect you get, is even more lame than the point the F&F stooped to (I have more respect for a completely stock looking TypeR Civic/Integra than I ever will for an RX7 that has $30,000 in mods)...HOWEVER, I don't look at the kits and neons and decals and vinyls and all that, as a play off towards F&F, although it pretty much is...I look at it as a grab towards the people that frequent NOPI shows, HOT IMPORT NIGHTS, etc.
:shiftingfun:

Anyone who's known me for a long enough time will say they wouldn't expect to hear this from me, but you can't say that those guys are not real streetracers, because, at some point, even now, possibly, they were or still are.
How do you think they got started. SOME real competitors at these shows started out doing the same thing we all are, meeting up and hanging out in parking lots BS'ing until someone asks about your car and wants to race, so you two run off somewhere secluded and race (FOR FREE, no bullshit "2 large" bets), then you come back and resume BS'ing. When you get to a point where you've done all mods to your engine that you can afford (God knows an A/M turbo is out of reach for most of us), you tend to want to make your car stand out, a little. Eventually, it can lead to the "show cars" that we pretend to despise. WHY do we do that??

All I know is that, while I slowly start up a family and become a little more responsible, I can't chunk all of my funds into a car, so this game may be my best chance to trick out the Supra the way I want to, or atleast as close as possible. Maybe that's why they did it...because they can OBVIOUSLY appeal to the teenage F&F fanatics, but maybe they want streetracers to play the game, too. I'm mean, honestly, if someone made a video game about the same thing you do at work every day, would you play it???? If they made a game where you had a '92 civic you got for 2000.00 and you were allowed about 1000.00 to do whatever you wanted with it, no more, and you had to find and/or buy the tools first, would you HONESTLY rush out and play it??? This game is a way to reach past streetracing, into something a little more fantasy-world, but with touches of reality. Show me a streetracer that doesn't get a little excited when presented with a stage 3 turbo'd civic WITH a CLEAN body kit, a few well-placed decals, and maybe even a bigger-than-needed wing (as long as it isn't TACKY big), and I'll show you a streetracer who is somewhat closeminded on the whole deal and maybe even a little standoffish to that stuff so he will appear to be more authentic...hmmmmm <_<
(You are right about the Altezza style lights, though...THERE IS A REASON THEY ARE CALLED ALTEZZA LIGHTS...THEY BELONG ON AN ALTEZZA!)
And yes, the nitrous blurry thing is rather cheesy, but, well, remember : their biggest demographic WAS the kids that saw, and loved, F&F, so, that's to be expected.
:P
The best point I saw you make, however, is that they don't have cops on this game...of ALLLL the NFS games, this one should have had them the most. Don't tell me you can run drag races down the same few streets for so long, blowing by countless other cars, and none of them are going to call the cops??? Riiiiight.... <_<
Gran Turismo IS a better game as far as the racing, but, well, #1 drifting is a pain in the ass on that game, and #2, you can't modify your cars as freely on there.

P.S. - Don't knock "lining up in front of Wal-Mart"...there's nothing wrong with that... ...it won't happen again... :(

True Crime : Streets of L.A....
Marlon was playing that last weekend and, well, I was watching, and, I think I like GTA III and GTA : Vice City WAY MORE...it was more cartoony than those two. The cars were more realistic (actual cars as opposed to generalizations of actual cars in the two mentioned above), but the game as a whole was really cartoon looking.
:P

As far as I'M concerned, all GTA's (mostly III and Vice City) are the best games ever created, solely because of the plot and the things you can do.

We beat the game last friday. Theres nuthin after 111 just a lil movie. It only takes 2 like stage 80 sumthin 2 get the skyline then thats basically all the cars by then. Theres extra cars like the petey pabulo car and the rob zombiecar and stuff.

Shit, I haven't played the game since last weekend...
I ended up at race 86 of 111.
I got the Skyline at about 83, I think.(I think John02Hawk was talking about the one from the beggining...Eddie's Skyline, I think).

But I did notice this, guys...my cousin and Marlon were playing it tonight and they have gotten to race 77 now...they have acquired differen mods then I have (hoods, decals, vinyls, etc)...we think that the way you win races (i.e. your style points on certain races vs. others, and how many times it takes you TO win a race) may be a factor in which cars and mods you get at what time.
Shit, I'm happy...I got the Skyline and the stage 3 engine and turbo mods...I'm not too worried about stage 3 Nos/Susp/WeightReduction...

i lied, i guess i am really on level 103 and i have been stuck there for a while now. It's a 7 lap race and I can't get anything better than 2nd place. I've tried different cars and everything.

Any advice on this one anyone?

We had 2 switch 2 diff cars depending on the race the last few races cuz they were so hard and some cars do better. All the vinals and paint and stuff do is get u on more magazine covers.
