2001 Buell Blast, 4800 miles
It's been 9, almost 10 years since I last rode anything. I wanted to get back on a bike, but my track record when younger was not great, so I've been hesitant. Found this little puppy for $1600 and couldn't pass it up as a bike to get back into the swing of things. Talk about a fun little thumper!! Single cylinder, 492cc; bascially half of a HD 883.

Ya get what ya pay for? lol
Had an oil leak; replaced the rocker cover gasket, the rocker box gaskets, the airbox/carb gasket, the carb/manifold coupler, and fixed some bent pieces from when it'd been dropped before (not me!). Ridin it today to see if I fixed that damned oil leak.
I need gloves. I ran my hands under warm water for about 5 minutes after my ride in to work this morning.

Most of the rocker box gasket that came off (paper):

is it still torn appart or do you have it back together?
Jet-Lee
Oct-16th-08, 11:58 am
It's back together. Took for a short ride last night (don't enjoy cold night riding much, I figured out), and rode it in to work today.
Tonight, the carb comes apart; it's running a hair rich.
I'm also gonna shorten the blinkers, bring them closer in so they're not floppin around.

All's good, nao.
I had put 87 octane in it, and it was pingin. Drained it and re-filled with 91, runs fine.
Need oil. Can I run synthetic in the primary?

Should be just fine w/synthetic. With as much work as you are doing with the bike it would be beneficial to purchase the service manual if you haven't already. BTW..nice bike.
This one look familiar?

Haha, hey man, thanks!
Ditch the camping this weekend.
Goin for a manual later this evening. Getting deeper into the bike, I want one for piece of mind (and torque specs).
BTW - Your bike looks better up close/in person; seen it the other day sittin out front and looked it over good. (In case your girl doesn't tell you I told her that today.)

Haha, that's funny, I even went back and looked. Must be something with black. Black never looks good in pics.

This is sort of true..I guess it depends on the quality of the photo. Because I took the pics of the bike with my blackberry..the pics of the car were with a 4mp digi cam. And I'll bet if I used an even better camera it would have looked even better. Black is hard to capture, especially when there is a lot of it. Good luck digging around in that bike.

-Rejetted (again, and will yet again)
-Modified airbox (will again)
-Modified exhaust (it sounds sick)
-Changed oil (Castrol Syn-Blend V-twin oil)
-Changed primary fluid (same)
-Shimmed main jet
-Adjusted clutch (need to adjust primary after work, was too late, bike too loud)
It sounds fuckin nice! Got the clutch adjusted, grabs a LOT smoother. Need to adjust the primary, but it's gotta be hot and running, which I can't do at 1am, so it's just gonna make noise till tomorrow afternoon, I'm pretty sure it's too tight.
Thanks Jimmy and Dave for the help!

Lol, I got more jets on the way. Waitin on a 45 slow, still, so it's all gonna come apart again. I can dremel that thing out at that point.
Still to do:
-Change slow jet
-Adjust primary
-Modify air box
-New air filter
-Fix TPS
-Check timing
Fun fun.
