Closed gives you more response and clarity.
Ported gives you more volume and "boom"

Sorry dude, but completely wrong.

Sealed can be boomy and muddy as well.

It ALL depends on the speaker and the box combined. A high Q speaker in a ported box will sound like shit while a low Q speaker in a sealed box will sound like shit.

A ported box built properly for a low Q speaker, will sound just as good as a high Q speak in a sealed box, EXCEPT the ported box will play lower. No matter how you cut it. No pun intended.

A mid Q sub in a proper bandpass will put both to shame.

However, as your order goes up, so does your size.

1st order (sealed) - Small (NOT smallest)
2nd order (ported) - Bigger (usually 1.25-2 times larger)
4th order (common bandpass) - Larger (usually about 2-2.5 times larger than 1st)
6th order (bandpass) - Bigger yet (has two tunings)
BVR (2nd order, exception) - Biggest in car application

To say one is better than another is pure ignorance (lack of information), it's all in the combination (speaker/enclosure) and application.

so whats better for sound quality in prefabs. slotted ported or closed?

To properly answer the OP's question:
Whichever sounds better.

I don't like what you like, you don't like what I like. Some like smooth-RTA'd setups, I don't (mids kill my ears).

The ONLY answer to your question is to try several and find what sounds best to you.

If you want a smooth-RTA response, you gotta go custom 'cause there's a LOT goin' on, not to mention needing tuned on an RTA.

Lol, I figured you'd come in with the expert statistics.

My point was, put the same basic speaker in a ported box vs. a sealed box... That's at least what I've been told in layman's terms.

I'd take Jet's advice though, he's the speaker expert around here. I was just trying to give a short quick answer.

LOL

For all we know, he's got a low q sub, and putting it in a sealed box isn't going to help anything except the store owners pocketbook.

I know what you're trying to say though, it's an all-too-common misconception.

I'm not the expert, there's plenty of fella's that can show me up.

Hi..
we always want voice clearly in your sound. But
It's all depend on the speaker and the box combined. A high Q speaker in a ported box will sound like shit while a low Q speaker in a sealed box will sound like shit.
