ok, so, I've been thinking a lot about my next car lately, and I've pretty much decided that I really want a vw. the problem is, I know almost nothing about euro cars. so, what would be a good vw to mod and what would I be looking at spending on a good used one?

ok well a 1.8t is the best hands down-ive had a 1.8t jetta and recently just sold a 1.9tdi golf-what do yu wanna do with it-oh yeah the vr6 is very stought also-theres some pushing 500whp on stock block-if you want i can bring you about 100 vw magazines to read up on and learn alil. depending on the year and miles any where from 3000-20000$ a decent 1.8t golf for about 8-10000

if you go the cash get a new 2.0t gti. they make a ton of power with just a chip and are supposed to be the highest quality and most reliable vw to date in the states. if you're gonna go 4th gen a 1.8t is a great choice. can make lots of power, gets good mpg, and generally a reliable motor if you take care of it and it is one of the newer years. vr6 will make more power obviously but the mpg is not gonna be nearly as good.

i think vr6s sound great and i am sure if you drive it right (and the newer ones have 6 speeds iirc) you can get some decent mpg if you can keep your foot out of it. an r32 would be sick, but those are pretty pricey compared to a regular 1.8t. i would probably get a jetta, but thats because i haul a lot of people around. ohhh did they make 1.8t jetta wagons with a 5 speed, that would be pretty tight too.

I was mainly planning on doing a little work on it in every area (interior, exterior, and performance) I can get some money, but I really don't want to spend more than.....6-7k on this car so I was thinking something in the 3rd generation.

then i would def. look into a mkIII. def. go with the vr6 instead of the 2.0.

yeah i would defintely stay away from the 2.slow-get a 1.8t or vr6-1.8t respond well to mods and some are pretty cheap and use other vw,audi factory parts to do it.
you could even get a corrado g60-just make sure the compressor is in good shape or rebuilt correctly

There is a huge aftermarket for basically anything VW. 1.8t is a great place to start... right out of the box, the 2.0t in my GTI paired w/DSG is fun as hell. I'm playing right now with appearance mods, but I'll probably just do an APR stage1 so I still have a reliable daily driver.

If you get a MKIII get a VR6 no question. The 2.0 is good motor thought, you never have to work on it, it just kind of works all the time no matter what.
6-7 will get you a 1.8t but it may need a little love. And that noting i cant help you with.
If find something you like PM me an we can go look at it. I have a Vagcom (dealer can tool) so ican look a the cars computer systems and tell you whats up.
Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.
