Got some euro goodies....

Some of you may know that i ordered a euro trunk and Tails of the b5. It's been almost a month and a half and i was beginning to wonder if it was lost. Well last night it showed up! I put the tails on last night but the trunk was the wrong color and it has a big dent as you can see. I have an appointment with dave (at D&M in farmington) to get an estimate for it today.

After I took these picts i went ahead and stripped it of everything so it would be ready for paint and repair!

I dropped the trunk off with dave today. Going to have all the dents fixed, emblem shaved and the inside and outside of the trunk repainted.

I just need to get with jonah about making a plate bracket as I will not have a place to put my arkansas plate once i get the new trunk. The only hard part will be finding some way of lighting the plate if it is not mounted under the trunk lights.

The main difference is the reverse light on the euro tails are clear the american ones are smoked. Also the euro ones seem more candy red to me that my stock tails ever did.

That dent in the rear decklid sucks a fat one though...and right on the fold... a good PDR person should be able to fix that.

I got my Euro switch ordered... and I found a guy in Fayetteville to do the VagCom work for me at no charge... he is going to be at the Euro get together and said he could do that there for me.

It may or may not work for some things. I've tried it on a few cars that it is not supposed to work on 100% (Merks GTI) and it has not give me any problems. What exactly are you looking to have done?

Dissable DRLs - so pointless
Enable inner Halogens to light with brights - better lighting in rain
Remote Windows (hold unlock-windows down/hold lock-windows up)
Reverse tilt mirrors (put the car in reverse, and the mirrors tilt down so you can see what's behind the car)
Enable Euroswitch's Home feature - I ordered the switch that has it... though I'm not entirely certain what it does!

Basically that's it, unless you think I am missing something that would be worth while having.

That sounds good. Does the mirror have that option? i've never heard of it before.

We can try and see what happens. Like i said before, it's never not worked before but i've never scanned something that new before.

Well I went ahead and took a look at the wiring harness for our US car vs the harness that came with the euro trunk. And guess what? they are different.

They are only different by one wire. It's red/blue wire that goes to the white box that is the motor to open the trunk. We will see how the car takes ti when i cut that wire....

Also I noticed that with the euro trunk you can open the trunk using the black grab handle looking things. As far as i know this was never on any passat in the states but came standard on european cars.

Edit: forgot to update, the dent is gone and most of the body work is done. Should get painted and color matched to the car sometime next week if all goes well. Shaved euro trunks FTW!!!

I'll be dropping the car off thursday to have the trunk put on. I have been running the frame for a few days to make sure nothing would fall off.

I used some of the vac line end caps we talked about to put over the ends of the screws and it seems to be working fine.

Last pictar ever with the american trunk, and you can kind of see the lack of pinstripe. It def makes the car look wider without the stripe.

Went by and saw the trunk the other day. Emblem was gone along with the huge dent! That little funny line is just a strange spot in the primer.

I Really have to thank dave over at D&M they did an awesome job with everything! Not to mention i probably drove him crazy calling every day wanting to know if the car would be done.

Next up will be shaving the antenna, painting the roof black and getting the bumpers redone along with the side mirrors. WOOT!! I'll have to take some better pictars if it ever stops raining.

Well i got the trunk put back in order tonight. Got all the pannels back in, spare tire back in ect. Also go the euro warning triangle mounted (i love that thing, its so strange.

Big thanks to jason (i8ayellowcrayon) for the help getting the plate LEds hooked up and running so i could be legal at night. My cop friend thought that it should be ok, but we will see.

Oh and josh the plate holder worked out great! If you wanted to sell it i would be more than willing to buy it off of ya.
