Well I have recently noticed a problem with my head unit; It plays fine and works perfectly except for when I eject. I know that with labeled CDs it can be a problem with them getting stuc, but it is with every CD lately. Could this just be a motor that controls the ejecting of the CDs? It gets caught on the felt like material that covers the hole. If it is a motor is this a quick simple fix?

depends on if you have gotten grime and dirt in there from like dirt roads or dusty areas or its just really old?

I dont really know of an easy way to help you, I've always just looked inside with a small screwdriver (to pry apart the protective lips) and <--haha protective lips should have said labia

anyway, looked inside for debris. Otherwise, a couple screws and a few metal tabs and the top comes right off. Kenwood I have noticed has issues like this and its hard to mount them (older ones) in any way except horizontal and level to the car there have two small rollers that roll the CD out.

I suppose you could listen for the motor, if it sounds like it is a steady RPM while ejecting then its likely not the motor, if its too high of a pitch then perhaps the belt or drive gears are slipping, otherwise it will be a steady pitch then will sound like its binding or getting stuck.

I would just take the top off and lube it up. Heat and steady use causes the grease to often dry up. I've seen factory fords and pioneers get stuck because of the plastic face being in the way.

Just stick a credit card or something in the "Labia" to see what the CD is doing upon ejecting it. If it doesnt move at all then there is something wrong.

My issue is probably rather the dust or the drying out. I don't think its just cause its old... It is getting a little old, but I know of much older ones working fine same brand (Pioneer)

Have you ever used burnt CDs or something that could have flaked off? I'm sure you've thought of it though... maybe you just listen to numerous CDs throughout the week and it just needs cleaned.

I would look inside if I were you, a couple ejection keys down the side and a harness plug is all you gots to worry about. I've used other devices to release the lock keys before but its always a pain to find something thin and small enough if you dont have the originals. I think I used a couple sharp knifes before.

Theres nothing to taking the top off either, its really simple if you've never done it before. Did you check to make sure the plasics arent in the way of the CD? I suppose if you wanted it out bad enough, you could use needle nose pliers or tweesers to assist the ejecting rather than disassembling it. Maybe wrap some electrical tape around the tip so you dont scratch the cd too much? There are not any electonic components close enough to the top of the cd player to short out or damage from using a metal object in the labia (haha).

did you try hitting it while ejecting? Maybe it got lodged in a groove and just needs to get over it? Would be simpler to just remove it though.

what department or what network are you on at school? your IP said "resuser". Doubt it would mean restricted but I dont know figured I would ask.

Its in the dorm I think res is for residence...

I know its not just one cd... its been happening for a couple of weeks now. I guess I just need to take it out and look, but I'm just too lazy to rip the damn thing out... :p Too much stuff to take off of the consoles, unless I take the short route and risk breaking plastic in my car :P

I don't think anything has flaked off... but maybe... I did put a disk in that had been getting stuff thrown on it in my trunk the other day... I dunno...

He's at JBU

resuser is Resident User, someone hardwired into the network.

It's different for someone connecting wirelessly.

I'd yank the bitch and rip it apart, lol. They're not that complicated to take apart and put back together.

i knew where he was located just didnt know what res meant. Working in the nursing home I am only fond of "RA" for resident advisor and didnt even think RES could have been resident... didnt know they offered dorms.

Can you not just take off the bezel around the headunit to expose the metal chassis? A warped cd could def be causing it not to eject but since its been doing it, i dunno. I cant remember what the eject mechanism looks like in a pioneer.
