Alright, so I fucked up.

I was hooking up new speaker wire on my amp ( from the amp to the sub ) and the end that was going to be hooked up to the sub arched to the chassis. YES I had the amp on.... I forgot the key was turned to ignition.... I know I fucked up... So now my subwoofer works and acs totally normal when I play it, BUT my door speakers in the front and rear are popping every 1/2 second in and out... I've never seen this and I'm confused.

This is what I checked so far.

All fuses under the good = fine
All fuses in kick panel fuse box = fine
Power wire to amp fuse = fine
No pinched connections, wires touching etc = fine

So I went to check the back of my Pioneer head unit and there is no fuse at all on the back of the head unit???

Before I swap my deck, what else could it be?

If you've got your other speakers amped, it could be that amp. Other than that, I'd unhook all power cables then reattach everything and try again.

will post more later.

Nah, just running headunit power only. I unhooked the rca's and the power to the amp and checked my grounds, etc and it's still doing it.

The sub is not distorted or acting weird, so that's what leads me to think that it's the headunit or something that's connected to the head unit.

It's only the door speakers that are popping... When I turn the volume to 0 it stops.

you popped an output on your deck, i dont know how but it sounds like you did. does it do it with the amp unhooked? if you had you power wire hooked up and hooked up the rcas before the ground you might have pulled to much current thru the deck ground and killed the ground. do this, take a short length of wire and hook it between the decks ground and the outside sheild of the rca cables. that will complete the ground and might fix the problem.

Ya, I unhooked the amp and the rca's, and it still does it.

any chance you fried the speakers? Someone tell me if this isn't possible, just an idea...

I fixed it... It was the headunit. The fuse wasn't blown but something inside fried. I dropped a Kenwood in and the problem was gone immediately. Thanks for the help guys.

this must have been an older 45x4 or equivalent DEH-2000 ~ 4000... most had mosfets with hardly no short protection and shorted quite freqently (that I know of). Dont know about newer ones, dont use them anymore I've went towards kenwood with their nice displays.

I attempted a repair of one once but it was no use. I had plenty given to me to fix/trash or use for parts. Wish I had seen this earlier, could have possibly saved you some time :P

The popping might just be a capacitor discharging and you might have only blown a diode but I doubt it, how freakin high was the volume? Which output contacted ground? Was it a pre-out or one of the internally amplified channel outputs?
Dont know the exact voltage, but comparitively - the preouts are closer to .5v and the channels are 1v - 3v depending on volume. Pre-outs are pretty much straight from the processor before internal amplification... There could be a flat wire on the motherboard that shorted too.

I think I remember hearing that many people had to do that on the PS2 Slim. Or perhaps they had used the "Eye" because the PS2 would quit. Most stereos stop spinning due to a motor drive chip or FET that burns up but I dont know enough about fets to find the correct replacement. I attempted stacking them on my XMOD many years back but destroyed the board :(
I think they should put heat sinks and small fans on headunits but then people wouldnt keep buying units if they worked forever.

I've heard people had their 7" Lilliput LCD carputer monitor burn out after a few months to a year from dash heat and direct sunlight, but I installed a fan and sink that PULLS air (pushing doesnt help heat transfer) and its been working double the expected time, its on any time the ignition is and I think she's put 15 or 18k on it since then.

I am not some crazy electronics expert, just do what I can and learn from it. I like LED projects more :P

What do you mean it quit working? Did the display go away or just the audio/cd spinning?

is it a tilt display or is the buttons worn from use? What model? I could most likely repair it.
